The character was played by Amjad Khan. In the movie, Gabbar Singh is a dacoit, who leads a group of Dacoits into looting and plundering the villages in the region of Ramgarh.
Gabbar Singh's full name in the movie is shown to be Gabbar Hari Singh. No information is disclosed on his background except that he was an infamous dacoit and the villages in his area were terrorized by him and his clan. The character is heavily inspired from the infamous dacoits of Chambal.
Personality
His personality is of a Sadism and desensitized thug who reigns over the mountainous regions surrounding the Ramgarh village, one who insists on killing whenever required to continue his undisputed status and to take revenge on his enemies. Gabbar Singh also has a taste for ethnic dances and regularly visits the Banjara dance troupes when they come by his region.
Appearance
Gabbar Singh wears a Moss Green outfit. He sports a mustache and a carelessly trimmed beard. He is also seen with a Bullet Belt in some parts of the movie, adding to the traditional Dacoit outfit. He has curly hair and wears black boots.
About the Character
In the movie, Gabbar Singh is known as the biggest dacoit in the village of Ramgarh. He is known as the nightmare of the people. He asks for tax every month from the villagers, and forces them to do so, or he kills them.However,one villager, Thakur Baldev Singh, played by Sanjeev Kumar wants revenge with Gabbar because Gabbar had killed Thakur's family and had cut his hands. He hires two strong crime-breakers, Veeru, played by Dharmendra, and Jaidev, played by Amitabh Bachan. The two heroes force the soldiers of Gabbar Singh to retreat withought the tax. Gabbar Singh is now very angry, and decides to avenge. He attacks on the day of Holi, but Veeru and Jaidev fight back and force him to retreat. Gabbar Singh starts killing the villagers one by one, until Veeru and Jaidev surrender. They make a plan, and ultimately Gabbar Singh gets defeated, and imprisoned. At the climax of the movie, Thakur cut's Gabbar's hands with his metal pointed shoes.
