The Men's 200 metres at the 2008 Summer Olympics took place on 18th–20th August at the Beijing National Stadium.

The qualifying standards were 20.59 s (A standard) and 20.75 s (B standard).

Controversy aroused after the final race for the medals when Wallace Spearmon, who finished third in 19.85s was disqualified for stepping out of his lane. The United States filed a protest, but conceded after seeing the video. However, it was noticed that silver medalist Churandy Martina (19.82s), who had celebrated the second ever Olympic medal by a Netherlands Antilles sportsman, also stepped out of the lane and another protest was filed, after which (2 hours after the race) Martina was disqualified as well.
