Thank you from Horologium
Thank you for participating in my RfA, which passed unanimously with the support of 100 editors. Your kindness is very much appreciated. I look forward to using the tools you have granted me to aid the project. I would like to give special thanks to Wizardman, Black Falcon and jc37 for nominating me. — Horologium |
Aviation stats
I noticed you posted the stats I asked for (I've been stalking, waiting for it). Do you need to work on it more or can I work with it/edit it? Do you want it kept in your userspace or can I move it to Misplaced Pages:WikiProject_Aviation/Popular pages? Can this be set up to update in the future, say once a month? Thanks for your help! - Trevor MacInnis (Contribs) 01:03, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
- I've moved it out of userspace. I'll try to remember to update it whenever the full stats for July are put onto Henrik's site. If I don't do it, leave me a note. Also, if you want the full set of data for something (all 30,000+ pages in the category), just send me an email with what format you want (MS Excel, MS Word CSV, LaTeX, ODS/ODT, PDF, SQL, XML, or YAML) and I'll reply with the raw data attached. Mr.Z-man 01:31, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
- That's great, thanks a lot. Is doing this much work for you? Also, I've decided to add a column of assessment stats to the page, as you can see. Is there something that can be worked up to get this as well when the (bot?) runs? - Trevor MacInnis (Contribs)
- Now that the script is written it won't be much work at all. If I can figure out why it didn't work with articles that had double quotes in the title (I had to look up and enter those manually), I should be able to set it up to run fully automated. An assessment column shouldn't be too hard to add. Mr.Z-man 22:35, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
- You're the man, Z-man! - Trevor MacInnis (Contribs) 23:41, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

Greyhound Lines
I followed up your protection with a question at RPP and haven't got a response yet - probably because it's in the fulfilled/denied section. Nfitz (talk) 16:34, 3 August 2008 (UTC)
- FYI, the editors came to a quick consensus on the talk page, so I dropped it to semi-protection per Nfitz's request at WP:RPP. Let me know if you have any concerns with this. Cheers, caknuck ° is back from his wikisiesta 04:33, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
Run popularity bot for WP:Bird
I'd love it if you could run the bot for Wikiproject Birds. Thanks!.....Pvmoutside (talk) 17:16, 3 August 2008 (UTC)
Hollow page
Full protection? Seems a tad harsh a response to a garden-variety revert war. Belgium EO (talk) 04:29, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
- The other solutions are to leave it alone and hope it resolves itself, or block all the people revert warring. Page protection seemed to make the most sense. Mr.Z-man 01:01, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
Page protection
Hi Mr.Z! I just noticed that his page is full protected. Do you think it might be better to have it semi protected or not protected at all? --mboverload@ 15:17, 5 August 2008 (UTC)
- Unprotected. Mr.Z-man 18:02, 9 August 2008 (UTC)
REQUEST TO BLOCK USER
I was wondering if you could block user 69.77.143.110 either for a week, 24 hours, or permanently. He keeps making inappropriate edits to Misplaced Pages and has been blocked once for doing the same thing and seems to keep doing inappropriate edits. One of the pages that he has done the most inappropriate edits is to the Kazoo page. Please talk this over with the other admins about blocking user 69.77.143.110. Thank you. --Chrismaster1 (talk) 20:28, 8 August 2008 (UTC)
- There's only been 2 edits from it since May, and none today. Report it to WP:AIV if it starts vandalizing again. Mr.Z-man 18:02, 9 August 2008 (UTC)
Request for unprotect
Hi. You protected the template Northern Ireland tasks. This template should not be protected as it is constantly changing (albeit not very often, currently) as a guide to what articles need consideration for adding to the 'pedia. Could you unprotect this when you can? Cheers.
If you feel it must be protected in some way, for some reason, feel free to semi-protect it. --Setanta747 (talk) 15:59, 15 August 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks. :) --Setanta747 (talk) 01:12, 17 August 2008 (UTC)
Move page
Hi Mr.Z-man,
I'm having problem moving/reverting a page back to its original location. I once moved Magnus Svensson (floorball) to Magnus Svensson (Floorball), but now I am having difficulty moving it back. I check the log and everything, press the revert link, and when I finally try to move it, I keep getting "Error: could not submit form". Would it be possible for you to move it, as I am obviously having problems with that.
Zadora13 (talk) 18:28, 15 August 2008 (UTC)
- Fixed, the problem was that the correct title had a few edits from people fixing redirects, so it had to be deleted first. Mr.Z-man 18:32, 15 August 2008 (UTC)
Curious
Why should celtic cross be added to the bad image list? It seems perfectly innocuous to me. Exploding Boy (talk) 18:52, 16 August 2008 (UTC)
- Well, ok, but I was under the impression that the "bad image" list was to be used to prevent persistent vandalism primarily using sexual imagery, not the one time (mis)use of a totally innocuous line drawing. Exploding Boy (talk) 19:00, 16 August 2008 (UTC)
- Its hardly a one-time use, the "Zodiac vandal" has been doing that for at least a few weeks now. Mr.Z-man 19:02, 16 August 2008 (UTC)

You only provided one diff, so how was I to know that. But still, surely the appropriate action is to block that vandal, not to prevent everyone from using that image. Exploding Boy (talk) 19:03, 16 August 2008 (UTC)
- In fact, it appears he already has been blocked, and the vandalism you reference happened yesterday. Has there been further activity indicating that adding the image to the bad image list is necessary? Exploding Boy (talk) 19:08, 16 August 2008 (UTC)
- The vandal uses a different IP every time. If someone has a legitimate use for the image they can ask for an exemption. The WP:Help desk gets fairly frequent complaints about this (searching for "Zodiac" brings up 2 yesterday). There's at least one thread currently on both AN and ANI. (I found the image from the diff on the AN thread, apparently a different template was vandalized today). A search for tickets that contain "Zodiac" in the OTRS vandalism queue found about 50 complaints there in the last month. As for further activity, did you read my last comment at all? Mr.Z-man 19:12, 16 August 2008 (UTC)
- Special:Contributions/122.213.250.14 was today's vandal. Mr.Z-man 19:16, 16 August 2008 (UTC)
Yes, I did read your comment; did you read my response? This seems to be a unique situation. It's not an image of a penis that is being widely used to vandalise a variety of pages by a number of editors. It's simply that one particular vandal seems to favour this image as a kind of signature. Placing the image on the bad image list won't prevent the vandal from continuing to vandalise pages, but it will make it harder for others to use the image (particularly those who aren't familiar with the list and don't know how to ask for an exception). And there's nothing stopping him from simply choosing a different image to use -- there are several images of celtic crosses to choose from. Are we to block every single image? Exploding Boy (talk) 19:19, 16 August 2008 (UTC)
- The other option is to continue do nothing but RBI, that isn't working, so I'm trying something new. Mr.Z-man 19:21, 16 August 2008 (UTC)
- I don't doubt your good intentions at all, I'm just concerned about this way of using the list. You may be interested in the discussion I've started on the talk page there too MediaWiki talk:Bad image list. Exploding Boy (talk) 19:27, 16 August 2008 (UTC)
Geolocation bot request
Hi there. Thanks for taking on the bot request for geolocating articles about places in the Arctic. We now have Template:WikiProject Arctic. Would you also be able to tag the pages? Do please provide a list for checking first, but I thought I'd ask about the tagging. Would also be good if you could add assessments (marked as bot-added assessments) when an assessment for another project already exists. Or should I ask someone else for that? Carcharoth (talk) 04:20, 17 August 2008 (UTC)
- You'll probably want to ask someone else for the tagging. There's plenty of bots already approved to do tagging. I can provide a list that can be loaded directly into AWB (which I believe is what most people use for project tagging). I started running the script about 13 hours ago, its now about 35% done. So far its found 1,051 pages that appear to have a latitude north of the arctic circle. I'll post some more details about how it works to the talk page of wherever I'm going to post the list a little later. Mr.Z-man 17:40, 17 August 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks. You could try Misplaced Pages talk:WikiProject Arctic. Someone is tagging airports already, so there will be some overlap, but your list will be a great starting point. Carcharoth (talk) 18:55, 17 August 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for the list. Will be very useful! BTW, there were a few entires where the co-ords were wrong in the article, and one case of not being on the Earth at all! See here. :-) Carcharoth (talk) 00:20, 19 August 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, I saw that. I detailed a few possible sources of error on the talk page and removed one really obvious one that was right on top before I pasted the list. It had about a 99% success rate at finding the coordinates and there were some cases where the data was bad (usually due to a lat/long mixup where the longitude is >90) or it had trouble with odd Unicode in the title. I'll look through some of the misses to see if there are any more that should be in the list. Also, as the list was generated using the most recent database dump, any article newer than (or that had coordinates added to) about July 26 won't be in the list. Mr.Z-man 00:58, 19 August 2008 (UTC)
Category based Bot Tagging
Hi there, I hope you remember expressing serious concerns regarding category based WikiProject tagging by bots here. I made this FAQ list which tries to answer some of your concerns. Let me know if you have any questions . Thanks -- Tinu Cherian - 11:16, 22 August 2008 (UTC)
Article history
You once protected Template:ArticleHistory, and someone came along a month later and unprotected it. The template uses complex and intricate syntax and is used across thousands of talk pages; several editors have fiddled it into a state of brokenness lately, without discussing their requests or needed changes on talk. Very taxing during a time that Gimmetrow is on vacation, and I lost a lot of time today trying to track down the origin of talk page errors. Would you consider re-protecting it? SandyGeorgia (Talk) 04:39, 23 August 2008 (UTC)
- I happened to see this. I'll protect it. — Carl (CBM · talk) 04:41, 23 August 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks so much, CBM! SandyGeorgia (Talk) 04:44, 23 August 2008 (UTC)
