Ya'alon's public pronouncements have been controversial. For example he told the Haaretz Newspaper on 27 August 2002, "the Palestinian threat harbors cancer-like attributes that have to be severed. There are all kinds of solutions to cancer. Some say it's necessary to amputate organs but at the moment I am applying chemotheraphy."
Prime Minister Sharon, finally realizing Yaalons destructive chemotheraphy has failed to stop the cancerous growth which is accelerating daily, decided to remove the patient (Israel) from the treatment room (Gaza) in the coming months.
Yaalon's meek & humble style of authority has been greatly reduced due to his inability to forcefully rein in the dangerous & vociferous Aluf Dan Halutz, whom Sharon just made Yaalons Deputy Chief of Staff.
Aluf Halutz's total inability to grasp the modern tactics of airpower and the limit of airpower's ability to deter terror continues to lead Yaalon to a future date at the Hague.
With all IDF authority in the hands of Halutz now, Yaalon has been reduced to a figurehead Chief of Staff, in name only.
