- Dmitry Galkovsky (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) (delete) – (View log)
Biography of a non-notable blogger, referenced mostly to self-published sources. See Misplaced Pages:Notability (people) Colchicum (talk) 08:54, 17 September 2008 (UTC)
Keep. Notable author, journalist and blogger. DonaldDuck (talk) 10:06, 17 September 2008 (UTC)
- Then add these sources to the article. The fact that he is briefly mentioned in a handful of books doesn't necessarily indicate notability. The Google search is hardly relevant and mostly returns blog entries and self-published sources. The article as it is doesn't assert any referenced notability. Colchicum (talk) 10:37, 17 September 2008 (UTC)
Keep. Galkovsky is not only "non-notable blogger". He's a notable (and controversional) Russian writer too.R l (talk) 14:16, 17 September 2008 (UTC)

Delete. "A leader of Ducklings movement, a group of several hundreds MMOG players and bloggers, said to aim at planetary domination". I could not find any reliable sources that describe him as a notable person. What I found in Russian blogs seems to indicate nothing but mental problems of this person.Biophys (talk) 18:23, 17 September 2008 (UTC)
- Would be great not to discuss personal qualities or what you have found. Volodymir k (talk) 09:12, 18 September 2008 (UTC)
Keep. He is a prize-winner of Antibooker - one of the highest literature prize in Russia. Who nominated for deletion is rusophobe or little-known of Russian culture/ --Paukrus (talk) 21:30, 17 September 2008 (UTC)

Keep. Galkovsky is not notable because of his blog or his readers, but he _is_ notable for his novel. It is very peculiar in form, sort of like a discussion of history and literature combined with reflections on the author's life. Maybe "Endless Impasse" would be a better translation of the title. Anyway, this is arguably the first philosophical work to have been written as a hypertext (it consists of numerous comments which refer to one another, and the original essay that inspired the comments is only included as an afterthought). It has won the 'Antibooker' prize, as someone has commented. Galkovsky is perhaps not very relevant for English speakers, but in Russia he is "widely known in narrow circles," in the way a prominent academic might have a reputation among his colleagues in the West. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.142.115.39 (talk) 00:15, 18 September 2008 (UTC)

- I see no problem with his notability if it is referenced to reliable sources in the article. But it is not. Colchicum (talk) 08:18, 18 September 2008 (UTC)
- The thing is that many of the "reliable sources" would be other Russian intellectuals and writers, who make some reference to, or claim to have been influenced by, Galkovsky. The point is that he has not been studied abroad, and maybe he is not even that relevant (I don't know) to English speakers - but within _Russian culture_, he is definitely a notable figure, analogous to any American academic/novelist. A comment further down lists some of his publications and columns, but I'll just add that "Novy Mir" was an _extremely_ prominent publication in the late Soviet era.
- Antibooker might be a good indication of notability, but is it notable per se? How could I know? Colchicum (talk) 08:23, 18 September 2008 (UTC)
- Well, you tell me - "Antibooker" was distributed by "Nezavisimaya Gazeta," a well-known newspaper in Russia (circulation somewhere between 50,000 and 100,000, targeted at "independent" readers), and was fairly well-publicized at the time Galkovsky won it (1997). Furthermore, "Endless Impasse" is arguably the first serious Russian-language work of its kind, you can draw parallels to various famous English-language postmodern novels, and this "pioneering" quality also makes it notable.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.142.115.39 (talk) 19:25, 19 September 2008 (UTC)
Keep. Please look at the category . There are 138 pages of journalist names. Dmitry Galkovsky is a journalist. Why he was chosen? Someone can confirm that other 138 pages were checked and found notable? Volodymir k (talk) 09:09, 18 September 2008 (UTC)

- OK. I withdraw "138 pages" argument. Some independent VIP-tracking Websites has decided to host articles on this person: (http://www.peoples.ru/science/philosophy/dmitriy_galkovskiy/, http://www.anticompromat.ru/galkovsky/galkovskbio.html)

Keep. Dmitry Galkovsky is a writer considered by many to be the only living Russian classic for his "Beskonechy Tupik" ("Endless Impasse", http://www.samisdat.com/3/311-000.htm) book, 3rd edition of which was released in the end of 2007. Also 2 books of his essays, articles, interviews etc, "Propaganda" and "Magnit" (Magnet), and anthology of soviet poetry "Utkorech" (Duckspeak), were published (http://galkovsky.com/default.asp?view=bibl&cat1=bibl_book&fold=0010011000), and many of his short stories ("Svyatochnye Rasskazy" and "Skazky Druga Utyat" series) were published in online and offline media (e.g. http://magazines.russ.ru/novyi_mi/2004/3/g6.html, http://exlibris.ng.ru/kids/2004-04-15/8_skazka.html etc.)
But Dmitry Galkovsky is most notable as a journalist: apart from his own blog where he published almost 500 entries, most of which amount to a full article (unlike a typical blog entry), and attract hundreds of commentaries and start many substantive discussions on essential topics of Russian and international life, his works were published in magazines and newspapers Novy Mir (New World), Russkaya Zhizn'(Russian Life, http://www.rulife.ru/index.php?mode=author&auID=20), Nezavisimaya Gazeta (Independent Newspaper), online newspaper Vzglyad (Look, http://vz.ru/columns/2005/7/26/2344.html etc.); he had also published his own magazine Razbity Kompas (Broken Compass).
Deletion of an article about such a well-known and influential, even though not "officially", person as Dmitry Galkovsky will not undermine his position, but rather Misplaced Pages's as a source of impartial and complete information.
- considered by many - by whom? Sources, please. Colchicum (talk) 11:20, 18 September 2008 (UTC)
- By readers. Read for example the following reviews: Andrey Miroshkin, "Knizhnoye Obozreniye" ("Book Review") http://www.club366.ru/articles/galkovskii_ko.shtml, Anna Kuznetsova, "Znamya" ("Banner")http://magazines.russ.ru/znamia/2003/1/kuz.html, M.Grigoriev, V.Toporov, I.Mantsov etc. http://vz.ru/search/?action=search&s_string=%E3%E0%EB%EA%EE%E2%F1%EA%E8%E9. Also please take a look at the links in the entry above, you will be able to see a whole range of different sources. And as you may have noticed I attribute Galkovsky mostly as a journalist, even though he is a well-known writer too. Asolver

Keep. Knowing nothing about something does not mean that information related to such unknown topic has no value for others. Personally, I am very interested and I would like to see this article here and see it updated. Anton Rau —Preceding undated comment was added at 13:28, 18 September 2008 (UTC).

Keep. It seems that the logic of the deletion request is very flawed: Colchicum admits that he was unable to find much data on Galkovsky, and that is exactly why he wants to delete the information that is readily available. I had my lulz. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.82.155.49 (talk) 20:02, 19 September 2008 (UTC)

A note to closing admin. I think this is either clear WP:Canvassing or meat/sock puppets. We now have seven SPAs who did nothing in English WP but voted here. Same thing with some accounts who edit 2008 South Ossetian war article
- Please do not spoil WP principles. Supporters of the article mainly are readers of Galkovsky. They are here not to delete texts of the others but to protect their right for information. And it has nothing to do with "obscurity" of Galkovsky, as you wanted to present it earlier. Facts are that Galkovsky is quite a known literary man in Russia. I see another reason behind this deletion which is becoming obvious as soon as someone check articles you've created. It seems that your position is not neutral and your opinion is distorted because of personal disagreement with some of the ideas (political, as I assume) of the writer. And I do not think it is a good reason to deprive others of the information they require. Anton Rau
- Hello people, did you all came from Russian wikipedia? So far I can only see that Donald Duck and Volodymir k are active contributors there . Biophys (talk) 21:50, 19 September 2008 (UTC)
- I see no correlation between being contributor and significance of the opinion in the context of this issue. Let me remind you of what is written on the article's main page: "This article is being considered for deletion in accordance with Misplaced Pages's deletion policy. Please share your thoughts on the matter at this article's entry on the Articles for deletion page." That's what I'm doing. You are a happy man if you believe that importance of the text about Maria Gaidar (http://en.wikipedia.org/Maria_Gaidar) you have created is higher than the discussed article. But I am not trying to delete it, you see. Maybe it is because I, not even being a contributor, understand that some people may have strange tastes. Anton Rau
