To be born again in Christianity is synonymous with rebirth and salvation. A large proportion of American Christians call themselves born-again Christians and maintain that being born again is essential for salvation. The term itself is derived from the third chapter of the Gospel of John. The term is used somewhat differently in different Christian traditions.
