Plot
Meenakshi and her elder sister are daughters of a famous dance teacher who is blind . While her elder sister is a dutiful daughter (and a singer), Meenakshi, in spite of being a very talented dancer, is more of a rebel. She does not respect the classical arts and dreams of being a movie star or being rich instead. Chandram(Venkatesh) moves into the house next door to Meenakshi and notices her talent. He requests her to take up dancing as a profession and organizes a performance by her. Reluctantly, she agrees to perform but screws up her performance on purpose. Unable to bear the disappointment, her dejected father dies. A heartbroken Meenakshi blames Chandram for her dad's death. In spite of her reaction, Chandram still encourages her continue dancing, instead his advice falls on deaf ears and she decides to take up a job in a hotel as receptionist. When the manager of the hotel discovers (through Chandram) that Meenakshi is in fact a skilled dancer, he coaxes her to give a dance performance which captivates a foreigner (Sharon Lowen, playing herself) who is an ardent lover of Indian fine arts, and is a skilled dancer herself. Sharon offers Meenaskhi a place in her dance group with an opportunity to go abroad and consequently gain the riches she's always dreamed of. But even as her dreams are coming true, she realizes her feelings for Chandram have changed. She has to make a choice now.
