Israel has constructed many settlements in the West Bank and Gaza, territories under Israeli military occupation. These settlements have been declared to be illegal by the UN Security Council (Resolution 446), and Israel was been order by that resolution to cease further settlement activity. Israel is obliged under international law to accept the decisions of the UN Security Council; but Israel has refused, in violation of international law, to do so.
