- The war of Iraq in the Middle East, which began with the 2003 Invasion of Iraq and ended with the defeat of Saddam Hussein's government and the old Iraqi army.
- The Iraqi insurgency, which is either part of the above "war" or else within the scope of sectarian violence in Iraq, which began with the post-invasion period, and continues to the present.
