The Seasteading Institute, founded by Wayne Gramlich and Patri Friedman, is an organization that seeks to establish independence from government through the organization of society on seaborne platforms ("Seasteads") operating in international waters. Peter Thiel has pledged $500,000 to this organization. Patri Friedman is the Institute's Executive Director, having left his job as a Google engineer on July 29th 2008 to work full-time on the project.
