October 1932 in Gotha; † 1. April 1991 in Düsseldorf) was Manager and german Politician.
Succesfull business man and Social Democrat party member.
While responsible for the privatisation of former communist East Germany he was murdered while standing at the window of his highly guarded house by a high-grade sharp-shooter.
He was reportedly opposed to an unrestricted sell-out of GDR's public-owned factories and may have favoured the occasional worker-owned solution.
His successor Birgit Breuel, daughter of a millionaire banker, was more in favour of a speedy sell-off to investors.
