Nichrome is an alloy of nickel and chromium, often used in heating elements. Typically, the alloy is 80% nickel and 20% chromium. It is silvery-grey in colour, has a high melting temperature (1800 degrees C), hence it's usefulness for heating. The alloy tends to be expensive due to it's high chromium content.
