Paul Ryan (born January 29, 1970), American politician, has been a Republican member of the United States House of Representatives since 1999, representing the First Congressional District of Wisconsin. Born in Janesville, Wisconsin, he attended Miami University in Ohio before entering the family business in Janesville. Ryan worked as an aide to States Senator Bob Kastin in 1992 and as legislative director for Sam Brownback of Kansas from 1995 to 1997. He was elected to the House in 1998 and assumed office in 1999. He serves on the House Ways and Means Committee and the Joint Economic Committee.
