Anson D. Shupe (b. 1948) is an American sociologist who studies religious groups and their countermovements.

Work

Shupe is a Professor of Sociology at the joint campus of Indiana State University-Purdue University at Fort Wayne, Indiana, teaching courses such as "Deviant Behavior and Social Control" and "Sociology of Religion".

Together with David G. Bromley, Shupe is considered one of the foremost social science authorities on the anti-cult movement, based on a series of books and articles on the topic he coauthored with Bromley.
