Crank: High Voltage it is a sequel to the 2006 action film, Crank. It picks up exactly where the first film left off, retaining its "real-time" feel. Crank: High Voltage is written and directed by Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor, who both wrote and directed the previous film, Crank.

Plot synopsis

Picking up immediately after he hits the ground at the end of Crank, Chev Chelios (Jason Statham) is kidnapped by a gang of Chinese medics. On an operating table, they attempt to harvest his organs. But after they remove his heart and replace it with an electronic temporary one, Chev wakes up and kills the medics. He then has to chase after the gang who have stolen his heart. At the same time, he must keep shocking himself with regular jolts of electricity to keep himself alive.

Other characters who re-appear include Doc Miles (Dwight Yoakam), Eve (Amy Smart) and Orlando (Reno Wilson).

Cast

Former child actor Corey Haim will have a cameo appearance in the film, reportedly in a nude scene. Also appearing in the film are porn star Jenna Haze, Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington (who also had a short appearance in the first film), Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan, and UFC fighter Keith Jardine. Former Nine Inch Nails member Danny Lohner will also appear in a scene together with Maynard Keenan. Spice Girl Geri Halliwell also has a small role in the film as Debbie Spellman.

Production

Mike Patton, of Faith No More and Mr. Bungle fame, will be producing the score for Crank 2: High Voltage.

Lionsgate Films will handle North American distribution of the film, while Lakeshore Entertainment will handle international distribution. Filming started in April 2008. The writers and directors confirmed there will be more sex and violence within an R rating. Like the first film, the production budget will be lower than $20 million. In order to help keep costs low, the filmmakers have taken advantage of low cost prosumer HDV cameras such as the Canon XH-A1, as well as a consumer model, the Canon HF10.

The movie has received an R rating by the MPAA based on an interview with Amy Smart. She was photographed brandishing taped nipples and disclosed that her character Eve has become a pole dancer. She also said that there will be another public sex scene with Jason Statham, this time taking place on a horse racing track.

Release date is tentatively set for April 16, 2009.

Soundtrack

Linkin Park's song, "Given Up", will be featured in the movie (lead singer Chester Bennington has a cameo in both films). The majority of the soundtrack will be done by Mike Patton.
