FC Terek Grozny (Russian: Футбольный клуб "Терек"), formally known as Football Club Terek of the Chechen Republic, is a Chechen football club. Originally founded in 1946, as Dynamo, it changed the name in 1948 to Neftyanik and in 1958 to Terek. In 1990s the club was disintegrated for some time. It is normally based in the capital, Grozny, but due to the current situation in Chechnya home games are played in the neighbouring Stavropolskiy kray in the resort city Pyatigorsk, and European competition home games are played in Moscow.
They won Russian Cup and Russian First Division in 2004. They did not participate in the Russian championship on any level during First and Second Chechen Wars, so some people thought that the competitions they won were rigged by the government to please those Chechens who support the Moscow rule. However, their lineup had a lot of experienced players, so their victories were most likely earned honestly. In 2004 they advanced through the UEFA Cup qualification into the main tournament where they lost in the first round.
