Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here. | ||
---|---|---|
Shortcuts
Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection) After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.
Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level Request unprotection Request a specific edit to a protected page Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here Request edit |

Semi-protect. High level of recent IP vandalism. Twinsday (talk) 17:07, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
Cobra Group (Marketing) (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
semi-protection. Constant reverse edits all by unregistered users taking anything to do with negative press out of the article. Edits obviously being made by owners/employees and should be watched for potential escalation to full protection. History says it all Cokehabit (talk) 15:44, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

semi-protection, there appears to be some dispute between IP's on this talk page, the history explains it all. Momo san 15:21, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
Edgar Allan Poe (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
Temporary semi-protection Excessive vandalism from multiple sources. I would suggest considering indefinite semi-protection because of the frequency of these sorts of requests; I leave it in more capable hands. Thanks in advance. --Midnightdreary (talk) 15:13, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
- Semi-protected for a period of 3 months, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. I agree about the level of vandalism but let's try not to go down the indef route.--RegentsPark (My narrowboat) 15:18, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
- I agree that it's a bit extreme. Thanks for looking! --Midnightdreary (talk) 16:55, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
Bianca Ryan (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
Indefinite semi-protection vandalism, Repeatedly subject to vandalism. Some of it such as is likely the work of a chronic troll who, using a number of screen names, is known to lurk in and raid her website forum and constantly leaves derogatory comments on YouTube videos of her, as well as on videos posted by fans of hers. The cited ex. has all the earmarks of their posts - same kind of wording complete with misspellings that they're known for. This has been going on for a couple of years or more. This guy isn't going to go away. They come and go at random, temporary semi-protect isn't enough.Docsavage20 (talk) 14:40, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
Adolf hitler (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
This request is for the lower-case redirect, not the actual article. At least semi-protection, if not outright full protection. Vandals have changed the redirect to point to other articles, and there's really no reason why the redirect should ever point to anything other than Adolf Hitler (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) (capitalized). --Elkman 14:29, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
Template:Preamble to the United States Constitution text (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
Full protection This is the text of the Preamble to the US Constitution. The text is changed quite a bit and a discussion has been taking place at Talk:Preamble_to_the_United_States_Constitution#Some_means_to_lock_the_text that proposed a template be made with the text and then full protection since there is no reason for the text to change. semi-protection, Anonymous user keeps introducing unnecessary changes to the page - 1, 2, 3 and 4 - removing factual information (the CD reference numbers) and introducing new, unsourced titles. Semi-protect because of a silly ongoing edit war between two IPs. The subject works as a newsreader on BBC Radio 2, but the editors cannot seem to agree on the level of information about this that should be included. Have tried to mediate with little success. - Fair enough, but this is becoming a regular occurrance with neither side apparently willing to reach an agreement. - addendum, since I was going to request this too. I gave a warning that page protection was imminent on the talkpage. . WLU made one uncontroversial change after acknowledging the warning . - I'm sure you do think your edits were just what you say! Not sure others would agree, FWIW. However, they occurred after I asked you and WLU to voluntarily confine yourself to the talkpage. Current requests for unprotection
ShortcutsBefore posting, first discuss with the protecting admin on their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.
- To find out the username of the admin who protected the page, click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page," which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
- Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
- Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
- If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page, please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected, please use the section below.
Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Unprotection, There is no need to protect this page. It looks like someone tried to create a page but it kept getting deleted because of advertising reasons. We would like to create a simple page to describe the company and its history just like other jewelry designers are doing at Wiki. Thank you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.161.233.229 (talk • contribs)
- We? As in employees of the company? That already tends to set yourselves up for a conflict of interest. You could create a neutral well-sourced article in your IP userspace, and when it is done you can place a {{helpme}} and request an admin move it to the protected page? Syrthiss (talk) 15:53, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
Current requests for edits to a protected page
ShortcutIdeally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.
- Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among
{{Edit protected}}
,{{Edit template-protected}}
,{{Edit extended-protected}}
, or{{Edit semi-protected}}
to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed. - Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Misplaced Pages:Suggestions for COI compliance), the
{{Edit COI}}
template should be used. - Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Misplaced Pages:Requested moves, not here.
- If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
- This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

- One of those was a legitimate edit that the same IP eventually provided a source for. The protecting admin seems to be using User:Lar/Liberal Semi, which doesn't exactly mesh with WP:SEMI. Grsz 03:50, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
- I agree with Grasz11's assessment. The protecting administrator is using another user's personal reasons for protection rather than policy reasons, which should be discouraged (there are no grounds in both WP:SEMI and WP:BLP (see Misplaced Pages:BLP#Semi-protection and protection) for such a protection). Seeing that unprotecting this article might result in wheel-warring, I think it should be taken to WP:AN or WP:ANI though. Regards SoWhy 07:32, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
- I see this has been taken to ANI... just as a note, I'll say what I said there. "While the protection is within (a liberal interpretation) of policy, if someone wants to take a particular article to RFPP and ask that it be unprotected, that's fine. If consensus is that it be unprotected, that's fine too. This little experiment is not intended to supplant more official processes. So no worries and thanks for the heads up." It's OK to differ about policy. ++Lar: t/c 17:12, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

Semi-protect. Moderate level of persistent IP vandalism, but on a page of a living person whose traffic (over 2K per day) has doubled in the last six months, and who has a high profile.
