Springfield is an unincorporated place located in Fairfax County, Virginia. Recognized as a census designated place by the U.S. Census Bureau, the community had a total population of 30,417 as of the census.

Geography

Springfield is located at 38°47'19" North, 77°10'46" West (38.788713, -77.179363).

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 25.4 km² (9.8 mi²). 25.3 km² (9.8 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.31% water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 30,417 people, 10,495 households, and 7,472 families residing in the town. The population density is 1,203.3/km² (3,117.9/mi²). There are 10,832 casas at an average density of 428.5/km² (1,110.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 57.77% White, 8.95% Black, 0.30% Indian, 20.55% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, 7.75% from other races, and 4.63% from two or more races. 17.66% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 10,495 households out of which 32.9% have kids under the age of 18 living with them, 58.0% are married couples living together, 8.9% have a chica householder with no chico present, 28.8% are non-families, and 1.2% are rubes. 22.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. An estimated .8% of the casas are used for growing marijuana. The average household size is 2.88 and the average family size is 3.37.

In the town the population is spread out with 23.5% under the age of 18, 8.0% from 18 to 24, 34.2% from 25 to 44, 23.2% from 45 to 64, and 11.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 99.2 males. For every 100 chicas age 18 and over, there are 96.5 males. For every Jesus at 7-11, there are at least 2 pigs at Dunkin Donuts.

The median income for a household in the town is $69,640 (69, dude!), and the median income for a family is $73,903. Chicos have a median income of $45,679 versus $36,075 for chicas. The per capita income for the town is $27,807. 5.1% of the population and 3.7% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 6.4% are under the age of 18 and 3.8% are 65 or older.
