Thank You

Steve for your help, Im very lost on hereNZMinifoxys 22:21, 10 May 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Nzminfoxys (talkcontribs)

  • Even though you are a little "lost" your first effort was not too bad. My advice is to keep editing and keep reading other posts/policies/guidelines and all will become clearer as time progresses.--VS 23:33, 10 May 2009 (UTC)

AIV

Would you take a look at my reporting of User:Dew456 at WP:AIV again? You removed the report as a possible content dispute. The diff's on Mobile, Alabama will show that the user changed the census year from 2000 to 2008 the first time and from 2000 to 2009 the second time, in addition to changing the metro population to 404406 the first time and 406309 the second time. This is very similar to activity by User:Duke456 a few days earlier on the same page, which also replaced US Census 2000 data with incorrect figures. That user was blocked and then this new user began doing the same thing. Thank you for any consideration. Altairisfartalk 23:36, 11 May 2009 (UTC)

  • Thank you for the additional information. Socking is a different thing altogether. Action has been taken. Best wishes.--VS 23:40, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
Thanks! Altairisfartalk 23:42, 11 May 2009 (UTC)

Since you said you would cover some of Pat's stuff since he retired...

One thing Scarian took care of was the IP socking of User:MetalKommandant and his perpetual trolling. Mr Metal Kommandant is back in action using IP 86.134.211.2. Since Pat is gone do you think you can put an anchor on this troublesome user. Thanks! The Real Libs-speak politely 18:24, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

Help needed

Anon IP is disrupting the Anzac Day article. I've requested protection and also taken it to the 3RR reporting page but nothing has happened. Bidgee (talk) 07:54, 16 May 2009 (UTC)

  • Sorry mate was in the big smoke watching Carlton v Collingwood. Anything else needed now?--VS 21:56, 17 May 2009 (UTC)
    • No problem. Sorry for the late reply, Just been busy with TAFE and some research for some new articles and updating some as well. I've so far listed 182 archived newspaper sources to read but hoping to cull some as 182 pages printed at 50c each is about $90 and I still a lot more news stories to look at yet for sources! One article which will have to wait is Wagga Baths/Oasis Regional Aquatic Centre. Bidgee (talk) 15:09, 21 May 2009 (UTC)
      • Wow that's very keen work you are undertaking Bidgee.--VS 22:06, 21 May 2009 (UTC)
        • Yer but it's interesting reading however (Water Whizz and Hoyts/Twin Plaza is something thats going to take some time to research)! Seems that f****** Wagga Guide hasn't learnt any thing! Wagga Wagga Base is being used without any attribution! I've lost count on how many of my images are being used without an attribution but it's getting to the point that I may as well put a name and shame page up since contacting them seems to no work. At least with the US hosted sites I can issue a DMCA Take Down Notice (In Australia it not really possible). Bidgee (talk) 13:12, 25 May 2009 (UTC)
          • As you know I have very little regard for the proprietors of the Wagga Guide. Still, on the last occasion you received a response that they "never" do this sort of thing and a new junior editor etc. I would remind them of that message and demand a payment on this occasion or your intention will be to write to the Wagga City Council so as to inform them of what the company is doing. I think they would back peddle quickly if you indicated that was your intention - unless payment was made etc.--VS 21:25, 25 May 2009 (UTC)

Received and replied.--VS 02:18, 1 June 2009 (UTC)

Rick Warren

Can you undo full protection? Its been a very long time. Thx...Phoenix of9 (talk) 19:54, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

The mediation has been making gradual process and is coming close to resolution. I'm not sure why Phoenix of9 is making this request, but, as mediator, I do not support it. My short message would be "hang on, we are almost done." Sunray (talk) 20:22, 21 May 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for dropping by Phoenix and Sunray. No change to full protection is intended at this stage. Continuing success with the mediation will get the article to the stage where unprotection is warranted. Good luck.--VS 22:05, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

Hoserjoe

Hey Steve. I don't know if you recall once helping me in a situation where I was being harassed by a user, he was making some pretty inappropriate accusations against me, you intervened and he persisted. It started in November 2007 and picked back up in January 2008. Anyway, he's apparently emailing to get back in over a year after his block, misrepresenting the situation and making the same claims that he did them. Please see User talk:Jennavecia#Hoserjoe. لennavecia 19:41, 22 May 2009 (UTC)

Hi Jenna - have commented at the link. If you need more please ask (I will be out for a short time this morning but afterwards will check and assist further if necessary).--VS 21:35, 22 May 2009 (UTC)

Thanx for helping me with that

First of all, thank you for helping me clear that whole thing up. Second, once again sorry for being so rough with my words. I guess I just lost it for a bit.

I'm going to delete the entire exchange on her talk page because I don't want to appear to others including Sarah that I'm an angry person or just a flat out rude guy. Thanx for the help. AndrewEnns (talk) 03:30, 23 May 2009 (UTC)

  • Don't delete Andrew that is against the rules - however just strike through using <s> and </s> at the start and end of your conversations and post a small apology at the end.--VS 03:33, 23 May 2009 (UTC)
  • I've started the process for your Andrew - I'll leave you to write the apology.--VS 03:36, 23 May 2009 (UTC)

thank you, I will post the appolegy right now.AndrewEnns (talk) 04:05, 23 May 2009 (UTC)

I posted the apology. Hope that clears everything up. AndrewEnns (talk) 04:28, 23 May 2009 (UTC)

Blanking user page

So is it okay for him to blank every piece of feedback he gets so other users are always treating him as though he has a blank slate? This means he gets multiple welcomes from duped editors, and other editors lower their warnings because they are unaware of the other warnings he has already received. Of course a user should be able to blank his user page, but is it also okay to systematically blank your user page so other editors can't see the problems you are causing? --Geronimo20 (talk) 11:06, 26 May 2009 (UTC)

  • Yep sorry Geronimo - I can understand your frustration but see Misplaced Pages:Talk_page_guidelines#User_talk_pages for the guideline. If it's a consolation most editors will look at the talk page history of such users to capture the history of the user before leaving a message. Administrators almost certainly will - and from that perspective no history is ever completely erased.11:10, 26 May 2009 (UTC)
Oh well, he just reverted my final warning on wilderness. So I guess I'll just have to leave him running amok. I suppose he'll get roped in eventually. --Geronimo20 (talk) 11:24, 26 May 2009 (UTC)

User:Annarogoski

Annarogoski (talk · contribs) seemed to be engaged in worthwhile discussion and had gone quite a while without making any contentious edits prior to your block. I think she might have been coming around. Who then was a gentleman? (talk) 01:07, 31 May 2009 (UTC)

Vandalism?

I assume that labeling this as vandalism was just a product of hitting the button too quickly. For the record, I agree with your reversion, just not the label attached to it. Cheers. Unschool 08:51, 31 May 2009 (UTC)

  • This IP is a sock of Television Radio. The edit you refer to did not really have anything to do with my judgement of the content of the edit I reverted but that after blocking the IP as a sock I reverted all of the contributions that editor made today. To do that I chose the revert vandalism option on each occasion and whilst I can see why you may think that it is not the correct label - it is when confronted with such a laborious sock puppeteer, the quickest and most stringent way of dealing with such disruptive edits. With thanks for your interest.--VS 10:49, 31 May 2009 (UTC)
Understood. Thanks for the reply. Unschool 10:55, 31 May 2009 (UTC)
My pleasure - best wishes.--VS 10:57, 31 May 2009 (UTC)

Rollback Right Application

I was wondering if i could apply for you to grant me rollback rights permission. Am happy to answer any and all questions you may have.

Cheers and Kind Regards ZooPro (talk) 08:07, 1 June 2009 (UTC)

  • ZooPro am I correct in assuming that you are a relatively new user across the number of projects listed on your talk page (from say early May this year for nearly all projects)?--VS 08:28, 1 June 2009 (UTC)

I was an IP editor for around 1 year prior however moved home and internet companies and decided to create a user account and start doing some more detailed edits and major work, as apposed to a casual editor. Regards ZooPro (talk) 08:34, 1 June 2009 (UTC)

  • Hi again ZooPro. I have now assessed your contribution history. I note formally that you have engaged yourself in a number of wikipedia projects and you appear to be clearly interested in becoming an established editor. That said the difficulty I have in providing you with rollbacker rights is that I cannot establish any history in vandalism fighting. I appreciate that you edited as an IP account for a year and that you are clearly not and editor less than the month's experience your registration defines - but as detailed here - users who do not demonstrate an understanding of what constitutes capable vandalism fighting, either because they have no or little history of doing so, or show a poor ability to discern between good and bad faith edits will not be granted this right. My view is that you should establish a history of capable vandal fighting over the next 2 or so months and then return to me and I will be glad to reassess. I hope that you accept the reasons for this decision. Best wishes. --VS 10:25, 1 June 2009 (UTC)
  • Thanks mate, yeah no worries am happy to accept that, i will do my best over the next few months and ill let yah know. Thanks for your time mate. Kind Regards ZooPro (talk) 10:29, 1 June 2009 (UTC)

Some Scarian business for you.

Troll trouble on the Queen (band) article. 04parrw (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · nuke contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) has been re-adding false content for a while. And switched to Prulesforever (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · nuke contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) after the first account got warned. Wikilibs your concerns and Spitfire's et al comments at your talk page are noted. I trust that you have read the advice there from others but if you need further clarification or advice please come back here and I will try to explain/assist in greater detail.--VS 02:35, 3 June 2009 (UTC)

Oh, I didn't receive any advice... just simple newbie misunderstandings... (one with an inability to count to 4) I offered my assistance. When editors stick around they improve and they get past that whole AGF fairy-tale thing and realise that when all is said-n-done.. AGF for trolls just results in more trolling and then endless admin-wheel-spinning and legit editors stuck in non-progess flux waiting for that one admin with a pair to step up and clean up all the troll trash. That's why Pat was so effective as an admin. AGF for decent editors is great. And our young editors struggling yesterday will eventually grasp when AGF works and when it impedes. I didn't need your help with them... they seem good/dedicated.. they will catch on... I was just asking for fast-track help with the socks in a good old-fashion 'Admin-Scarian-way' because I couldn't rv any more V without breaking 3RR. Cheers and take care! The Real Libs-speak politely 12:05, 3 June 2009 (UTC)

  • Understood. I agree that Pat pushed the boundaries usually quite effectively as needed (especially in this area of his interest - music). Please call again just before you get to 3RR mode and I will try to assist. Best wishes.--VS 12:42, 3 June 2009 (UTC)

TheThankful

This user has resumed his disruptive activities following his unblock. In particular when I warned him that if he continued arguing on the talk page of Europe (I suppose the same point but it was essentially trolling because he had no edit to suggest), he reported simultaneously on WP:WQA and WP:ANI without informing me. I filed a separate report on WP:ANI. Please can some oreder be restored here? TheThankful is continuing to be disruptive and is harrassing me by this forum shopping. Thanks, Mathsci (talk) 22:43, 2 June 2009 (UTC)

  • It appears that Versageek has beaten me to this message and blocked TheThankful indefinitely. That should ease your concerns I hope. Please return at any time if you are confronted by another sock of this user.--VS 02:30, 3 June 2009 (UTC)
    • Thanks for this message! I spent the last two hours gathering additional references for the statements TheThankful was contesting. Oh well. Cheers, Mathsci (talk) 02:39, 3 June 2009 (UTC)
      • Future note - my contributions record and those of and around TheThankful as at the time of this message will provide further information and a trail of the dynamic IP range that this Sock Puppeteer is operating from.--VS 00:20, 4 June 2009 (UTC)

Hi Steve. Just wondering if you're planning on blocking an entire Utah mountain or a whole church to remove any reference to Western Civilisation starting in Iraq. I'm sure you'll delete this comment too. Of course it's vandalizm, not a discussion! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 32.138.57.71 (talk) 14:53, 4 June 2009 (UTC)

Requestq

Hi there STEVE, VASCO here,

Let's see if this is a "arrangeable" request: i would like you to protect David García's page for a while, please.

Now i develop: usually it is written in intro (and now i take this example): "David García de la Cruz (born January 16, 1981 in Manresa, Catalonia) is a Spanish footballer currently playing for RCD Espanyol in the..." - with no need to write the country after the province because it is referred to afterwards (after the brackets that is).

Well, some chap, fearing (i can only guess, it has happened before in several soccer articles) people are calling CATALONIA (in García's case) a country, rushed to the aid and quickly added SPAIN after CATALONIA, not noticing the redundancy. Furthermore, this chap is using a dynamic IP, so there's no point in messages (even if there was, i think it would not do any good).

Ty very much in advance, from Portugal cheers,

VASCO AMARAL - --NothingButAGoodNothing (talk) 00:19, 4 June 2009 (UTC)

  • No sir, twice (just check edit history a mere centimetres below you'll find a similar IP), i think a pattern is emerging. Like i said before, i have seen it in several other articles. Incidentally, all the players edited were from CATALONIA, all the IP were anonymous, and all those IP left no summaries.

Cheers (for now), VASCO - --NothingButAGoodNothing (talk) 00:55, 4 June 2009 (UTC)

    • Yes I had seen that edit but in March. Can you also give me the names of some/all of the other articles (they are clearly different IP's because the one's shown at Garcia have only edited on that page).--VS 00:57, 4 June 2009 (UTC)
  • Sure thing, and false alarm, STEVE (at least in the assumption it was the same person); The person whom edited GARCÍA did so from CATALONIA, the other group of edits (seen here http://en.wikipedia.org/Special:Contributions/83.42.238.184) were from an address in MADRID. It's not vandalism, but i am sure it will be reverted again, at least García, so i'll re-revert it when i can, if a protection is out of order.

Thanks anyway, until some other time - --NothingButAGoodNothing (talk) 01:30, 4 June 2009 (UTC)

Another Scarianism

Look at the edit habits of this feller. Based on his remarks on his own talk page and on the talk:Alice Cooper page i would say he has some WP:OWN issues on that particular article. His talk page remarks and edit summaries also show an ignorance for WP:NPA with regards to his interactions with the other editor involved. I lost count on his 3RRs on the article. The other guy has a few of those too but has, at least, rv'd some of his own rv's after reviewing the content added by the 'kingevil' person. I would say some intervention is req'd. I would seek a full prot on the article. But... if it were me... I would rather see the article reverted to the version previous to kingevil's... simply because he has been acting like such a pr**k did I say that? :-D Wadda-ya-think? The Real Libs-speak politely 17:51, 4 June 2009 (UTC)

  • Have blocked Kingevil for his continued personal attacks/harassment and left messages. Please feel free to adjust the article to an appropriate state. Best wishes.--VS 22:09, 4 June 2009 (UTC)
Thanks VS. I think I will rv the page back a bit a add a polite summary requesting more civil behaviour and teamwork. :-D I am leaving the Libsy-library now. I would wager you that my rv will be reverted by an IP of the 24.X range (I see Mr Evil's edit history that he likes blanking warnings from an IP talk page in that range) I will be keen to see the state of it all when I return tomorrow. Again, thanks for your assistance... have a nice night! 156.34.142.110 (talk) 22:48, 4 June 2009 (UTC) The Real Libs-speak politely 22:49, 4 June 2009 (UTC)

Hume and Hovell expedition

Our favourite Gundagai editor (203.54.9.230) is back and edited at Hume and Hovell expedition which I've since reverted. Bidgee (talk) 08:44, 5 June 2009 (UTC)

Has madam just come back or is she making a real pest of herself again? If she becomes a problem again we can reblock her two ranges. I had her ranges blocked for a year in 07-08 and it seemed pretty effective (see the big gap on the ArbCom log) but even a fairly short block as a warning might help. She has the same internet that I do, and the problem with blocking her IPs one-by-one is that the IPs change regularly on their own but all she has to do to force an IP change is turn off and on her router, so it ends up causing more collateral damage than it does actually getting in her way. Because she hates using accounts, anon only account creation disabled range blocking mostly takes her out, but if she's just coming here occasionally it's not really worth it. Sarah 11:10, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
Hi Sarah so far she appears to be sporadic. I've logged her recent IP's at the Arbcom decision and this is the first couple to arise since April. I'd like to see another range block if she reappears once or twice more - if you agree?--VS 11:18, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
I wish every ISP in Australia well in fact World-Wide would have static IPs rather then having dynamic IPs. Bidgee (talk) 12:02, 5 June 2009 (UTC)

Renaming images

Is it possible to rename images on Misplaced Pages? I am talking about File:Image0009.JPG , which uses the Generic name which I believe is against WP rules/whatever . If you can, can you Please do it? It should be preferrably called something like Mallikarjuna Reddy.JPG or something like that. --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 14:35, 5 June 2009 (UTC)

Just remembered that word...it was policy.. --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 14:39, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
