Stereo recording
Re your recent exchange of vertical and horizontal in Gramophone record - this creates a discrepancy with other sentences in the article, particularly two in the same section:
... a stereo cartridge reproduces the lateral grooves of monophonic recording ...
and
... the "difference" signal is usually of low power and thus less affected by the intrinsic distortion of hill-and-dale recording.
Both of these imply that the vertical (hill-and-dale) is the difference, and the horizontal (lateral) is the sum. Other sections in the same article also have similar implications, as does the article Phonograph. Redrose64 (talk) 13:16, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
