The 2009 Honduran coup d'état was a Honduran military coup d'état that occurred in Honduras on 29 June 2009. President Manuel Zelaya's attempt to have a constitutional referendum on June 28, 2009, to change the constitution and allow him to be re-elected has provoked a serious political crisis in the country. He has been arrested by his country's army and is being held in an airbase outside Tegucigalpa.
