Kosovo declared its independence from Serbia on 17 February 2008, an action not recognized by Serbia, that continues to claim it as part of its sovereign territory. Among its reactions, Serbia recalled its ambassadors from countries which recognised Kosovo for consultations (the ambassadors accredited to European countries returned in July 2008), indicted the Kosovan leaders on charges of high treason, and announced plans to litigate the case at the International Court of Justice. On 15 August, Serbian Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremić officially filed a request at the United Nations seeking an advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice. The United Nations General Assembly will vote on this proposal when it reconvenes in September. Serbia has 351.6 km (218.5 mi)-long border with Kosovo.
