Ante Pavelić (1889 - 1959) was the leader and founding member of the Croat Ustashi movement in the 1930sand later the leader (poglavnik) of the Independent State of Croatia.

He was the leader of the puppet Independent State of Croatia from 1941 to 1945 during the Nazi occupation of Yugoslavia. In 1945 he fled to South America via the rat lines. Upon arriving in Argentina, he became security advisor to Juan Peron. Peron then issued 34,000 visas to Croatians which included visas to some 734 Roman Catholic priests.
