Amazing Race Misplaced Pages Starts!

Hello, Shappy. This is a reminder that Amazing Race Misplaced Pages will start very soon. At 00.00 (or whereabouts), our host Firestorm will place the first Detour on your submissions page. Again, the Detour is a choice between two tasks; both members of the team choose one task and work together to complete it. A Roadblock is a task only one team member must perform; he/she may not have any help from the other team member. Good luck and enjoy the Race! :-) Shappy (talk · contribs) and Firestorm (talk · contribs) --EdwardsBot (talk) 13:34, 30 June 2009 (UTC)

Where's the submissions page and the rules, etc.? I'm confused by the contest so you might just have to take whatever content I produce :p Gary King (talk) 21:29, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
Doing a featured list would probably be easier then. I have been working on List of The Legend of Zelda games on and off if you want to take a stab at it. Gary King (talk) 21:39, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
List of Metroid media, which was an FL that I worked on. Gary King (talk) 21:44, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

From the Judges

Some did well this week, but a lot of you didn't move much. Some are still hanging under the 200 mark. Our current top 8 are all over 200, so if you are below that line, get moving! There is a poll up at the talk page about the rest of this year's competition. If all of you could give your opinion there, it would be very much appreciated.

DYK for The Finale (Will & Grace)

Updated DYK query On July 5, 2009, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article The Finale (Will & Grace), which you created or substantially expanded. You are welcome to check how many hits your article got while on the front page (here's how) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

WP:OVERUSE is useful, but it's a bit out of date now - I keep meaning to update it myself with some of the more useful debates that have taken place recently. Still, it's a good place to start. Black Kite 21:15, 5 July 2009 (UTC)

Funeral of Michael Jackson

I reverted your deletion of the Quincy Jones & Elizabeth Taylor references because their non-attendance (especially Liz's) has been reported by numerous sources; in that case it was more appropriate to add "fact" tags (since I don't have time to look them up myself). I was doing that along with adding hidden text to deter (though it certainly won't prevent) further unsourced additions to the official guest list (I had already removed Madonna & Beyoncé); your deletion caused an edit collision, so I had to re-edit the section and copy & paste my text. --RBBrittain (talk) 11:34, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

From the Judges

There were a few mistakes in last weeks' newsletter. Apologies about that. In regards to the competition, a few of you shot up in points this week. Very, very impressive. However, now that some have shot up to the top, others of you have to work even harder to catch up! There are about 3 weeks left in the round, so if you're behind, now is really the time to start nominating content, so that it can count for this round. If you wait too long, we won't be able to hold off the round while your content is being reviewed.

Per this tiny poll, the remainder of the competition has been altered.. sorry!! The changes being made are as follows: "We will be combining the last three rounds. Round 4 will now last from August through September, with 8 contestants. On September 1st, however, we will eliminate the bottom four contestants. The top four contestants will continue the round with the same score. Then, one person will win out of the remaining four on September 30th." You can also see this change to the main WikiCup page.

Lastly, we'd like to welcome back Shoemaker's Holiday into the competition! 'weburiedoursecretsinthegarden, iMatthew  at, and The Helpful One

Regarding your question here yes, you absolutely are allowed to do that. Numerous users (myself included) have tried to point out mistaken CSD tags to this user recently, but he apparently refuses to discuss the matter or review the CSD criteria. Beeblebrox (talk) 03:23, 14 July 2009 (UTC)

Apology & remaining concern

You are right; I was mistaken. You undertook a short discussion on the subject. Try Talk:Fascism or Talk:Sarah Palin if you laboring under the mistaken impression that the discussion on Blastoise is a thorough discussion. The former especially is a good example of how to categorize a compromise wording; unfortunately it seems that the Blastoise discussion is bogged down over the much more basic aesthetic of notability, and subverted by AfD and reverts; looking at the pros isn't going to help much if the basics aren't mastered. WikiCup participates in the Misplaced Pages:The Great Misplaced Pages Dramaout

Hello all, iMatthew here. I just wanted to let you know about "The Great Misplaced Pages Dramaout" which starts this Saturday. The goal of the Dramaout is to spend five days working on improving articles and abstaining from any of Misplaced Pages's drama. I don't think that any of you will have a problem focusing on articles for five days, because of course, any work you get done during the Dramaout will count towards your score in the WikiCup. Details are on the page; hope to see you all signing up! :) iMatthew  at 00:27, 17 July 2009 (UTC)

On the road again

I'll be going away on Sunday for 3-4 weeks. Could you please keep an eye on my current Simpsons GAC noms? Also, I'm supposed to be working on some articles for the season 3 topic drive (although I haven't started work on any of them). If you want to work on those articles, you can just take my name off and do it. I don't know why we have so many drives (one for each season) going, it kind of defeats the purpose of an organised drive (the purpose being to pool our abilities and make a concentrated effort) to suddenly have a dozen drives. Anyway, have fun. -- Scorpion 17:19, 17 July 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for making WP:NODRAMA a success!

Thank you again for your support of the Great Misplaced Pages Dramaout. Preliminary statistics indicate that 129 new articles were created, 203 other articles were improved, and 183 images were uploaded. Additionally, 41 articles were nominated for DYK, of which at least 2 have already been promoted. There are currently also 8 articles up for GA status and 3 up for FA/FL status. Though the campaign is technically over, please continue to update the log page at WP:NODRAMA/L with any articles which you worked during the campaign, and also to note any that receive commendation, such as DYK, GA or FA status. You may find the following links helpful in nominating your work:

  • T:TDYK for Did You Know nominations
  • WP:GAC for Good Article nominations
  • WP:FAC for Featured Article nominations
  • WP:FLC for Featured List nominations
  • WP:FPC for Featured Picture nominations

Boy-Scoutz n the Hood

About that, that is not original research. Original research is making up your own theory or statement for what happened, or what might of or could of happened, or interpriting something that could be put out of context and making your idea of what happened a fact. What I put in the cultural refrences is not original research at all, the title "Boy-Scoutz n the Hood" is similar to "Boyz n the Hood" and is therefore a play of the title, all the way down to the spelling, capitalization and pronouncation. And also, not to sound rude or anything but most Simpsons Episode articles contain something relating the episode title to be a play on an existing title, again not to sound rude or anything. Also I disagree with it needing a source as the producers, writers, directors or any staff members of The Simpsons intend it to be a play on a title. Anyways, hope you understand. Thanks. --Taylor Karras (talk) 04:50, 24 July 2009 (UTC)

I would be if the weather would co-operate. At least I`m back in a province where English is the primary language (as opposed to Quebec, where my very basic French was ridiculed quite a bit). I might be on again tomorrow, but then I most likely won`t have any internet access for the remaining time. Please keep an eye on the season 21 page as there is some comic con info coming out (it also helps to do a google search every few days. I do a google news search for "The Simpsons" and you sometimes find some pretty helpful stuff). -- Scorpion 13:38, 26 July 2009 (UTC)

Superbowl

Nice work so far on your rewrite of "The One After the Superbowl". Are you planning on including info about the Diet Coke fiasco? Bradley0110 (talk) 16:19, 5 August 2009 (UTC)

Heh. I was looking at the inbound links to the Prom Video article and saw the sandbox! I thought you might have been starting the S2 article! Bradley0110 (talk) 16:35, 5 August 2009 (UTC)

Jim Brooks

Cheers! I'm suprised it's got so long so quickly... Anyway, it's almost done, but I just found the mother of all sources so it's got a while to go still (it's a four and a half hour interview and after 5 minutes Brooks has already cleared up three huge ambiguities!) However I can't use it yet because I don't know how to cite it, so I need your advice. Here's a link to the first part. As you can see they are Youtube videos, but they were uploaded to the official channel of the archive group that recorded them, and their site (which is a subsite of the Emmys) links to the Youtube uploads. So... I don't know what to do, should I link to the Youtube videos? Or just use the cite interview template? Gran 21:59, 18 July 2009 (UTC)

Nice work on Lisa the Veg, should pass this time! Anyhoo, I've been trying to improve the format of the guest stars list. Do you have any suggestions for the table design, or anything else for that matter? I've filled it in for seasons 1-7 and it's already incredibly long and I wanted to see what you thought. Gran 15:00, 28 July 2009 (UTC)
I thought about leaving him out, I mean he appears over 50 times. But while Marcia Wallace has essentially got status equal to Pamela Hayden and Russi Taylor, Phil was really just a (really, really) recurring guest star like Kelsey Grammer and Albert Brooks. It's a grey area; the Complete Guide to OFF book and the BBC source all mention Phil practically every time, but almost never mention Marcia. Gran 15:16, 28 July 2009 (UTC)
Right, it's done and is only 70KB which is actually shorter than the Harry Potter cast list. I'm going to try and add sources and then it should be ready to go. Gran 11:55, 7 August 2009 (UTC)

Hey

Listen, I need your help and advice. --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 21:33, 24 July 2009 (UTC)

Alright, I took your advice in working "solo" in episode articles. Now, I'm having a bit of trouble looking for some reviews for two episodes. BTW, I'm working on Will & Grace related stuff. Anyways, I was wondering if you can help with looking for some reviews. Now, the advice, I just finished "working" on one episode and I want your take on it, if you have time. --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 21:43, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
Oh, okay... cool. :) Yeah, the episodes titles are "A Chorus Lie" and "Marry Me a Little, Marry Me a Little More", for right now, since those are the two I'm currently working on. Thanks and I do hope its good. Thanks. --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 21:57, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
Oh, definitely. I'll also add the song "Let's Hear It for the Boy". Thank you so much, its good... hella good. Yeah, the other article I'm working on is here. Again, thanks. :) Also, I want to get a DYK and would this ---> "...that Matt Damon's appearance on Will & Grace marked it the highest episode of the show's series history", work? --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 23:02, 25 July 2009 (UTC)
Cool. I'll let you know when I've gotten all your concerns. Thanks again. :) --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 23:07, 25 July 2009 (UTC)
Okay, I got all your concerns. Before I merge it into the mainspace, can you look at it? --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 00:27, 26 July 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for looking at it, I appreciate it. ;) Okay, I created the article, did a DYK (hope it reads well), and nominated the article at GAN. Okay, I got that done. If you have some free time tomorrow can you look for some reviews for "Marry Me a Little, Marry Me a Little More"? If you have free time. --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 00:52, 27 July 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, when you have time. I know your busy at FAC, so, I wouldn't want to take up more of your time. ;) Good luck with "Lisa the Vegetarian". --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 14:18, 27 July 2009 (UTC)

I'm glad you like it. I knew you were going to enjoy it. :) It took me a while to look for the "perfect" barnstar. You betcha. If you have time this week, can you look up some info. regarding Britney Spears' appearance? --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 14:46, 28 July 2009 (UTC)

Cool and thank you. :) --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 15:00, 28 July 2009 (UTC)
OMG, thank you. Again, I don't mind that you add info. to the production section, in fact that's exactly the help I need in. :) Oh, what a privilege and I won't abuse it, either. Sure, my e-mail is thinkblue_d@yahoo.com. Once again, thank you for your help. :) --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 21:40, 31 July 2009 (UTC)
So do you. --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 22:01, 31 July 2009 (UTC)
I'm waiting on the result of the DYK from "A Chorus Lie", whatever it is, I'll create both articles. Well, since Will & Grace isn't your thing, maybe we can work on some Friends episodes, since we do have that in common. Or do something else, I guess. All up to you. --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 22:34, 31 July 2009 (UTC)
Excellent choice and it happens to be on my top ten list of Friends episodes. :) --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 22:51, 31 July 2009 (UTC)
Will do. Oh, I don't want to seem like I'm rushing you, believe me that's the last thing on my plate. When you have time we can start on this, no rush, really. :) --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 23:01, 31 July 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for the notice. --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 23:11, 31 July 2009 (UTC)

Hey, I have a question. I found two interesting things and maybe more in the future. Okay, I found a couple of sources about how Friends had some Diet Coke campaign and that some people were not happy about it. The other one, Andre Agassi, who at the time was dating Brooke Shields, was on set and apparently wasn't thrilled that she kissed Matt LeBlanc. Do these two things warrant to be included in the article? --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 14:51, 4 August 2009 (UTC)

Will do. --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 16:29, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
Ooh, forgot about that. I'll add them shortly. Hey, I found this article, entitled "FRIENDS' POISED TO PLUNGE INTO OBLIVION", and I think you might want to look at it, its in regards to the episode, so. I can't "summarize" it, maybe you'll have a better chance at it. Thank you, I appreciate the praise. I was bored and I had his article in mind to work on. --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 18:06, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
You sure? Its not a problem, really. Yeah, check out the article. It might be helpful it might not, but I thought I should let you know about it. --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 18:23, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
Its good, but he's harsh, though. Man, I a lot of negative reviews for this episode. I added another review, hope its helpful. Are you gonna search for production info.? I've checked, but the stuff I found is already listed, so. I think everything is set, but I'm leaving it to you. --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 18:57, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
Thanks. :) Alright, just needed to know. --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 19:11, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
Sure, I'll do it right now. --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 21:24, 4 August 2009 (UTC)

Alright, I "expanded" it. Take a look. Also, I left the plot summary alone, cause I don't want to go into detail about the plot, so. Also, I was gonna add that the reason the episode garnered negative reviews was because of the guest stars, but I didn't include it. Just a feeling not to include it. I'm gonna add something from the production section. --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 21:42, 4 August 2009 (UTC)

Alright, cool. The hook works, like always. ;) Now, my turn. What should I say for the DYK hook for Britney Spears' appearance on W&G? I know, I know, I ask a lot, but episodes are still new to me... and I need all the help I can get... and sorry for bothering you a lot. --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 22:04, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
That works, thank you. ;) I'll create the article after the DYK for Matt Damon is confirmed. There's a backlog, I don't want to over do it. Go ahead, I don't mind. You've been helpful towards me, you deserve credit. :P Update: Oh, how sad. I didn't know that. --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 22:16, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
I know, but not to jinx it, I want to wait until it appears on the Main page. Its a superstitious thing in me, I know its dumb, but yeah. I hope you realize that the Matt Damon DYK is the first one I ever submitted... yeah its true. The other DYK's are co-credited. Don't worry I'll create the article. :P --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 22:39, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
Nice. Also, thanks for answering the DYK comment. ;) --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 15:14, 7 August 2009 (UTC)

After the results for the DYK for "Buy, Buy Baby", I'll create the article for "Marry Me a Little, Marry Me a Little More" and what's a good hook for the episode? Also, if you have some free time can you look over this? When you have some spare time. --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 20:20, 11 August 2009 (UTC)

Simpsons

Hi, Thanks for your message on The Simpsons wikiproject. I chose The Heartbroke Kid as I spotted it on the "unreferenced" section of the Simpsons project and have improved it as much as I can. It would be great if we could collaborate on one of the earlier episodes. We will have to check which ones are yet to become GAs and work on them. Let me know what you decide on my talkpage. Thanks. 03md 21:10, 4 August 2009 (UTC)

Shall we have a try at doing both, starting with The Otto Show - it shouldn't take too long. 03md 21:22, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
Are you doing any work on these episodes today? I have started adding info to both articles. 03md 19:40, 5 August 2009 (UTC)
I have already removed a great clump of unreferenced material from the cultural references section (see the article's history) but some of the facts can be readded if they can be cited. 03md 19:48, 5 August 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for your work so far on the articles. I would be interested to help with The Simpsons project in terms of achieving featured articles - just let me know which episodes I should work on after we have got Saturdays of Thunder and The Otto Show to GA. 03md 21:19, 8 August 2009 (UTC)
I am away for the next week and probably won't get a chance to edit wiki, so can you see through our joint The Otto Show and Saturdays of Thunder nominations? I will resume our project when I return. Thanks mate. 03md 23:12, 9 August 2009 (UTC)

Re: W&G

A new section was for the best. I guess that works. Um, the cast got cars as gifts from NBC, because they hit their 100th episode, so. Does that seem pointless to include? Thanks, I appreciate it. :) --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 20:34, 11 August 2009 (UTC)

Ye Olde Tavern edits

Per your request: See WP:WARN. The templated warnings are available for everyone to use. But a friendly message on their talk page is better, especially if they are an establised and productive editor. Edison (talk) 19:12, 19 August 2009 (UTC)

I left him a message. He seems like a good-faith editor, though with a conflict of interest. The answer to that is writing an objective and well referenced article instead of an ad. That is doable. We should not be too quick to warn and threaten new users with legalisms. But copyright is copyright. Edison (talk) 19:22, 19 August 2009 (UTC)
When you did the cleanup edits, you removed the claim about being on "Vermont Register of Historic Places.." Is see that claim associated with several inns of the period in the state. It would be a major step toward proving notability. Is there a Vermont register separate from the National Register, on which I could not find it? Edison (talk) 20:32, 19 August 2009 (UTC)
I found a Vermont Register, but they do not have an online listing: . They want people to email them and ask if a place is on the register, which would not serve as a reliable source (their email to you or me). I don't doubt that this place is on the Vermont Register, since it is as old as several other places which assert that they are. Edison (talk) 20:38, 19 August 2009 (UTC)
The article has been whipped into shape with amazing speed. Please take a look at Misplaced Pages:Did you know. A new article can be featured on the Main page, but is needs a "hook." From the business's website: "In 1902 as the Fairview Hotel, the tavern became headquarters for the movement to license the sale of "spirituous beverages". Two years later the revocation of the license closed the hotel." That might work as a hook. Merely dating back to 1790 would not be impressive to European readers. Any other possible DYK hooks? It must be a referenced fact. The article must be less than 5 days old to qualify. Edison (talk) 00:13, 20 August 2009 (UTC)

WP:SCV Clearance of GFDL articles earlier today

Hi Theleftorium, and belated thanks for taking over at WP:SCV and tackling that seemingly endless backlog. While reviewing the page history a moment ago, though, I noted you cleared several articles from as GFDL licensed. This is unfortunately no longer possible since we switched to dual licensing on Jun 16th, we can have text either licensed as CC-BY-SA only, or CC-BY-SA + GFDL, but we cannot use any content licensed under GFDL only.

I know, it sounds crazy and counterintuitive, but GFDL and CC-BY-SA are not compatible. See also the long discussion at User talk:Coren/Archives/2009/July#Bot is tagging GDFL content for more background on this very issue. Best, MLauba (talk) 17:41, 20 August 2009 (UTC)

Hey, when you get some free time, would you want to help me get Smithers up to FA? I have no experience on any character articles, even to the GA level. Let me know if you'd like to help me with this, or if you would rather stick to episodes. Thanks, CTJF83Talk 05:50, 23 August 2009 (UTC)

Lord of the Rings Video Game

Hello, my friend. I understand that this may be somewhat inappropriate, but, if you know of this, could you please tell me the cost of the PC version of the video game and where to buy it? My thanks; do not fear, for I shall not bother you again after this. AsaLong (talk) 15:41, 27 August 2009 (UTC)

Check this out

Hi, TL. About your question to Mrg, I thought you might like to look at the Can I add something to Misplaced Pages that I got from somewhere else? page. It reads Only text under the Creative Commons Attribution-Sharealike 3.0 Unported License (CC-BY-SA) or in the public domain can be freely copied onto Misplaced Pages. Anything less than 3.0 like here won't qualify. Cheers. — CactusWriter | 12:08, 29 August 2009 (UTC)

As it is now, yes, it's a G12. On the other hand, this page is available for copy. It's up to you, but there are a lot of other issues there it seems.. — CactusWriter | 12:18, 29 August 2009 (UTC)
You should check out Moonriddengirl's reply. I was wrong (per usual, it seems). She has now corrected the FAQ that I pointed you to. I think given all the problems of that page, the redirect was still probably the best solution. — CactusWriter | 12:50, 29 August 2009 (UTC)

Hey thanks for helping with cleaning up some of the new Indian musician articles. It's a pity that good and reliable sources are comparatively difficult to obtain for some musicians and there is POV and OR across the topic. This is such a great art... So

I eventually managed to get the concerns put on the correct page and notified the correct reviewer. Haha. I think you would admit that this review is really tiny. I wish everyone would have the same six standards written up on the review so it can at least be visible that they were checked. The reviewing statements were more superficial and stuff that isn't as important to MoS (and thus, GA). GA should be the opportunity to get a decent peer review and feedback, which most editors really want and seek out. It is just sad when people merely check things off and push it through without really looking. People put a lot of time into an article and it could at least be looked at. Blah. Swedish question

Hi Lefty, I have a small Swedish question if you don't mind: Finns det något svenskt idiom som motsvarar "please bear with me (for a few seconds)"? decltype (talk) 21:17, 13 September 2009 (UTC)

Not quite, but thanks anyway =) To provide some more context, consider: "This may sound like a stupid question, but please bear with me ...". Or "I am going to present an argument that may sound really silly at first, but please bear with me ...". decltype (talk) 06:30, 14 September 2009 (UTC)
Hehe, that's a nice phrase. Thanks! decltype (talk) 06:55, 14 September 2009 (UTC)

/Strausszek (talk) 14:34, 20 September 2009 (UTC)
