Montgomery is, according to placesnamed.com, the name of 86 places in the United States of America of which 18 are Montgomery County. Some of these places were named in honor of the general Richard Montgomery, who died in the American Revolutionary War attempting to capture Quebec, Canada:

The original Montgomery was a place in France and, by extension, the surname of the Norman family who originated there. A member of this family, Roger de Montgomery, founded the town and castle of Montgomery, Wales, later the county town of Montgomeryshire.
