Glufosinate is a natural compound which was first isolated from two species of Streptomyces bacteria. It interferes with biosynthetic pathway of aminoacid glutamine and with ammonia detoxification. There are transgenic variaties of several crops (canola, corn, soybean and sugarbeet) which are resistant to glufosinate.
