Biography
Joanna, was born in Northern Ireland and is best known as the lead singer and songwriter with Christian band Iona. Her father is a Presbyterian minister, her mother a nurse, also three sisters and two brothers. With medicine strong in the family, it was natural for Joanna to train to become a doctor.
Joanna went to Queens University in Belfast to study medicine. In her third year Joanna was singing at the Christian Artists talent event and was snapped up to work for Youth For Christ in Denmark to do school ministry. After a year Joanna returned to the University to complete ther two remaining years.
She started working as a junior doctor in the Belfast Hospital, but in 1988 she was invited to form a band with Dave Fitzgerald and Dave Bainbridge. In 1989, Joanna stopped practicing medicine and Iona was born. Since then, Joanna has sung all over Europe and America. Iona's recordings have become successful worldwide, making them Europe's best selling contemporary Christian band.
A number of members of Iona have recorded solo albums, Joanna now has her own solo project.
Vocals by Joanne Hogg were also featured in the role-playing games Xenogears (for the Sony PlayStation) and Xenosaga (for the Sony PlayStation 2). She sang two songs from each game: Star of Tears and Small Two of Pieces from Xenogears, and Pain and Kokoro (The Words I Feel) from Xenosaga. Star of Tears was featured on the 2-disc Xenogears: Original Soundtrack; however, in the final release of the game, the song is not normally accessible. Japanese versions of Star of Tears and Small Two of Pieces (with a different vocalist) also appear on the remix album entitled Xenogears: CREID.
Instrumentals in both games were composed by Yasunori Mitsuda, whose first composing project was the classic Super NES role-playing game Chrono Trigger.
