The people of Canada, or simply Canadians (fr. peuples du Canada, les Canadiens), are citizens of Canada. Canada is a multi-ethnic nation, home to people of different ethnic and national backgrounds. As a result, some Canadians don't take their nationality as an ethnicity, but identify themselves with both their nationality and their ancestral origins. Aside from the indigenous Aboriginal peoples of Canada, nearly all Canadians or their ancestors immigrated within the past five centuries.
The vast majority of Canadians live in Canada, however there are approxametly 2,800,000 Canadians abroad as of 2009. Of those abroad the United States, Hong Kong, the United Kingdom, and Australia have the largest Canadian diaspora.
