The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is a 2003 film, a remake of the 1974 film The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. The film was directed by Marcus Nispel and produced by Michael Bay. The film was released on October 17, 2003 in North America.

Plot Summary

Template:Spoiler In 1974, a group of college kids are headed to Dallas through the back roads of Texas. On the way, they encounter a young hitchhiker who shoots herself with a revolver. The kids contact the sheriff, who takes a long time to come down to meet them. Two of them wander over to a large homestead, which they discover is inhabited by a family of psychopaths who support the grisly and abusive practices of their son: torturing, mutilating and wearing the dead skin of his victims. One at a time, the young college students fall prey to the demented family, until one girl Erin, portrayed by Jessica Biel discovers that this family has kidnapped a baby to raise as their own. She hacks leatherfaces right arm off, takes the baby from the family, runs over the demented Sheriff and makes her way out of the horrible town.

Prequel

A prequel to the remake was announced in 2004 titled as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning. The plot is set to take place 3 years before the events of this film. The film is directed by Jonathan Liebesman and will be released in cinemas on October 6, 2006.

Trivia

• The film is banned in the Ukraine.
• A deleted subplot detailed Erin being pregnant, explaining why she didn't "drink the water" or "smoke the weed" in Mexico.
• Katie Holmes was considered for the part of Erin.
• Daniel Pearl, the cinematographer for the original film reprised the position for this movie.
• At the end of the movie we see Erin driving away in the Sheriff's car, passing Leatherface gripping his chainsaw with his remaining arm. However, in the Sheriff's walkthrough of the Hewitt house, Leatherface still has his right arm, despite the walkthrough being made after Erin's escape.
• On October 20, Fangoria Magazine posted an article on their website about the new Chainsaw Massacre prequel. In it they interview producers Andrew Form and Brad Fuller, who also produced last year's Chainsaw remake. They are quoted as follows: "The trucker who picks up Jessica Biel at the end of the movie?' he says. 'We wanted that guy to be Gunnar Hansen, of the original CHAINSAW. She gets into the truck, and there’s Gunnar. It would have been brilliant.' 'We felt we could have pulled that cameo off because general audiences don’t know what he looks like at all,' adds Fuller. 'It would have been just for the die-hards.' However, Hansen, according to the producers, insisted on an elaborate sum ('He wanted 15, 20 grand for one day!') that the producers simply couldn’t afford on a $9-million dollar budget." Gunnar Hansen then replied on his web site gunnarhansen.com, "This is a lie and it is slanderous. Yes, they did approach me about being in the movie for a day. And I was interested. But they offered me union minimum for that day (somewhere around $650). I told them that that they would have to offer me more than that to get my name on the poster. But I did not name a number. The casting associate declined to offer more. I guess that, with only a $9 million budget, they could hardly afford to pay me more than minimum. What pisses me off even more is that this was unnecessary. When asked why I was not in the movie, they could have just mumbled something about not coming to an agreement. Instead they lied. I guess they like sounding like victims, little innocents who have to face off with that greedy film ogre Gunnar Hansen. Puh-leeze."
