Several popes of the Roman Catholic Church have had been born in the Roman Province of Africa. According to the records of the Liber Pontificalis, they were from the Roman Province of Africa which corresponds to the territories of modern Tunisia and Libya. They may have or not have been descendants of Roman Colonists, Punic or native Caucasian Berbers, as this is not recorded.
