Paul Tyler was Member of Parliament for North Cornwall, and a member of the Liberal Democrats' shadow cabinet until 2005. He was elected as Member for North Cornwall in 1992 - he had previously been elected Member for Bodmin in February 1974, losing his seat at the October election that same year. Tyler stepped down at the May 2005 general election. Dan Rogerson was selected by the local Liberal Democrats to succeed him.
On 13 May 2005 it was announced that he would be created a life peer, and on 16 June 2005 he was created Baron Tyler, of Linkinhorne in the County of Cornwall.
