Gates to avoid

As item A of the FAQ at the top of Talk:Climatic Research Unit hacking incident reminds us, -gates are among words to avoid in relation to our neutral point of view policy. The issue of glacier shrinkage that you've expressed interest in is covered at Criticism of the IPCC AR4, and has no direct relevance to the hacked e-mails. The source you've given a link to does seem to cover several viewpoints on that issue, and looks useful. Thanks, dave souza, talk 16:37, 22 January 2010 (UTC)

Thank you for your reply. I checked out the IPCC critique but in my opinion it does not capture the depth to which these two unrelated issues have affected the debate. I am scientist and interact with other scientists on a daily basis. "Climategate" brought to general attention the charged atmosphere and previous controversies in climate science. Add to this the IPCC screw-up and I can now report that two professors and about a dozen good researchers I work with openly express very negative opinions regarding climate science. Obviously I can not show a written reference for such a change in attitude but I simply want to express my strong worry regarding how climate science as well as science and scientists in general will be viewed in future. I would like to express this shift in perception but I am at a loss how this can be done in a neutral and constructive way. Food for thought? 130.232.214.10 (talk) 17:42, 22 January 2010 (UTC)
