Tae Kwon - Do is a form of Korean martial arts. In the Korean language, Tae means foot, Kwon means hand, Do means way.

On April 11, 1955 at a conference, most Korean martial arts masters decided to merge all the various fighting styles under the name "Tae Soo Do".

This name was changed in 1957 by General Hong Hi Choi to Taekwondo.
