- (Edit conflict). I've written what I think is a better explanation of what happened below.
Well, I haven't edited en.wp in quite some time now. It's been a while since the ban was issued... well, the ORIGINAL ban (on user:Flameviper) was issued waaaaay the hell back in 2007.02, and I haven't done anything bannable in and of itself since then. I've edited, sure, but the only offense was that I was banned before. I've made thousands of edits since then (through this account and some others), and they've all been of a decent quality. And yeah, maybe I've been a dick, but it's been a long time. I'd like to say I'm a lot better than I was then, or at least I'm better at handling encyclopedia work without making a spectacle of myself. Anyway, I'm asking to come back. I could just create a new account, but that would come back to bite me in the ass, I'm sick of the drama and the secret agent double identity crap - getting far too old for this sort of thing. I just want to edit an encyclopedia, and I'd like to do it on good terms. The stuff that happened before... that's like crap from your permanent record that you did in 2nd grade. So what do you say? {{subst::User:Ziggy Sawdust/Sig}} 14:46, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

- In progress, I'm rather incompetent with setting up transcluding so it's a bit of an effort but it's all in progress. I'm just blanking out the stuff above to make it a bit cleaner for the discussion and you can just restore it after if you want to. Sarah 04:36, 5 July 2009 (UTC)
Ban appeal
Hello Flameviper. This is to notify you that your request for a review of your community ban is (or will be) posted at WP:AN#Flameviper ban appeal. Comments from Flameviper
This section is transcluded from User talk:Ziggy Sawdust to permit Flameviper to participate in this discussion. Please post your comments or questions directed to Flameviper in the section above. Thank you. Sarah 04:36, 5 July 2009 (UTC)
My responses to the above comments are as thus:
First of all... I'm 15 and 7 months. When I referred to the ban being placed when I was 12, I meant the things leading up to the February 2007 block. And in December I'll be 16.
And something I've realized in the past year is that ban evasion solves nothing. It's certainly possible to edit under another account, but the fact that you're hiding your identity turns the encyclopedia from a collaborative project into a game of Mafia, and it all goes to crap from there. That said, it would certainly be easier for me to just create another account and start editing. I could do it today, but I'm not going to. Of course, I understand that if I'm unblocked through this appeal, I'm going to lose the benefit of the doubt (or at least partially). People will be watching me, and a wrong step will end in disaster. But I'm still doing this, because I value honesty. And transparency, and openness, which is essentially the foundation of the whole project. In this spirit I'm being open about my identity.
Now there are some people who are afraid I'm going to immediately (or eventually) do something idiotic again. Not going to happen. Why? Well, mostly because in the past I was a moron. It was partly immaturity, it was partly me being inexperienced with WP, and partly me being absolutely unable to articulate myself. I am, by no means, perfect, but I'm a lot better than I was then. And then there's the question of why. Why would I go through the trouble to appeal a block, show that I'd changed my behavior in the last two years, just so I could be a jackass and get blocked in a week? If I wanted to vandalize articles or make personal attacks, I could create a new account in five minutes and hack away. But that's not what I want to do. Editing constructively requires a lot of things besides the individual editor's maturity; you need trust, consensus, and honesty to make it work. This is why I'm doing this. - (Non-admin) question You mention a couple of things as not being your motives (vandalism and personal attacks). Would you address the other side of the coin: Why and what do you want to contribute if reinstated? - Simon Dodd { U·T·C·WP:LAW } 20:05, 5 July 2009 (UTC)
- When this account was blocked I was working on the articles Tungsten and Lutetium as well as categorizing/cleaning up articles from the backlog. Of course, over the last year I've become somewhat interested in a variety of things, as well as having come into the possession of scads of reference books. So I'd probably be referencing a lot of articles as well, and (dare I say) creating some. ZS 01:40, 6 July 2009 (UTC)
- Responses to EdJohnston (I did an awful job of quoting this, sorry
I'd support the WP:Standard offer, which requires either six months without socking, or three months plus 500 edits of useful work on a sister project. Durova observes that he has not yet met this criterion. My reluctance is strengthened by
- "Six months without socking" I've already done. Actually, I've done over a year.
His past abuse of efforts to get himself unbanned (using a sock to vote in support of his own unbanning)
- There's nothing I can really say to this besides "yeah, that was a total putz move on my part". I misjudged the situation, but as I've gotten older I've gotten wiser, or at least wise enough not to do stuff like that. But bringing that up now is about as relevant as bringing up the fact that I crapped my pants a lot when I was a baby.
He has not come forward with a complete list of his socks
- There's been nothing in the last year. And the category (if it still exists) has everything before that.
Nobody has yet volunteered to be his mentor.
- I was unaware this was a criterion for unblocking. Not that I'm opposed to someone volunteering, but I don't think the ban should be continued based on that.
No evidence that he ever did the proposed work at the Simple English Misplaced Pages that was mentioned above by User:Aunt Entropy.
- I made some edits there. I wouldn't consider them substantial, and I wouldn't compare simple.wp to en.wp.

I'd be willing to edit as User:Flameviper if unblocked ZS 02:27, 9 July 2009 (UTC)
Unblocking
Do you prefer Ziggy Sawdust or Flameviper?
Be aware that consensus is tending towards giving you another chance, but strongly weighted towards mentorship. Dylan620 (talk · contribs) has kindly offered to mentor you. Will you accept this as a condition of your unblocking? KillerChihuahuaAdvice 22:59, 10 July 2009 (UTC)
- I'd be willing to accept a mentoring or anything. As for the account name, I don't have much of a preference. This account is a more recent name of mine (I no longer use Flameviper other places), so I'd rather use this, but if anyone has requested that I use Flameviper that would be okay too. ZS 03:43, 12 July 2009 (UTC)
- No one seemed to care much. Unblocking this account, noting that you are under mentorship of User:Dylan620 and User:Mazca; please heed their advice and assistance. Link to discussion is here. KillerChihuahuaAdvice 14:11, 12 July 2009 (UTC)
- Ok, you are unblocked. Don't screw up again, ok? KillerChihuahuaAdvice 14:16, 12 July 2009 (UTC)
Hello, Ziggy. First of all, welcome back to Misplaced Pages. Since you are unblocked (and your community ban officially revoked), I have blanked the sockpuppet template from your userpage. I have left it up to you with the decision on whether or not you would like your userpage restored. I am looking forward to mentoring you, and I was personally thinking we should discuss a mentorship plan for the coming weeks/months. I'm expecting great things from you; after all, you have been here for over 4 years (that's nearly 5 times the length of time I've been active here). :) Your mentor, → Dylan620 (Toolbox Alpha, Beta) 15:04, 12 July 2009 (UTC)
- Indeed - welcome back, Ziggy. I'm not anticipating any problems, as it's unlikely the community would have agreed to your return if there weren't some decent indications that you've got over your previous issues. I'm here as a backup to Dylan as the community felt having an administrator on board would be useful - but I'll leave the specifics to him. I'll be keeping an eye on how it's going and helping out where necessary: do let me know if there are any problems or queries. Best of luck. ~ mazca 15:25, 12 July 2009 (UTC)
Ziggy -- congrats on your unblocking. --Bcjordan (talk) 22:23, 12 July 2009 (UTC)
Welcome dude
Welcome back Ziggy. I'm glad you've been given another chance and hope that you are able to keep your nose clean and make a success of this opportunity. I will be around and available here and by email so please feel free to contact me any time. I look forward to seeing some great thing from the founder of the Adoption program. :) All the best, Sarah 02:31, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
- I'll be lurking for the time being, thank you for all your help. Not going to jump back into editing, though, don't want to repeat last time's dramastorm. ZS 03:04, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
Ooh, I'm gonna give you such a smack...
HalfShadow 19:15, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah, sorry about that. I took too long adding the tags, so by the time I made my edit the article had been recreated. So I tried to get a CSD template on, but nothing fit precisely. D: ZS 19:16, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
Welcome back again
Hey Ziggy, it's your mentor. Would you like to discuss terms for mentorship? --Dylan620 (contribs, logs) 23:40, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
- Sorry, I have never been on IRC, am not currently found on it and, following a possibly libelous IRC conversation about me (which was revealed at an RfA), I do not intend to go on it for some time. Meanwhile, as for the terms, I would personally recommend sticking to what you're good at for now (ref desks, CSD). I would also recommend extending to article building and vandal fighting – neither area could use enough help! Meanwhile, in terms of behavioral concerns, I would recommend remaining civil and mature, since incivility and immaturity were two major factors in your original ban from when you were still Flameviper. And remember not to make personal attacks. Here are some links which you may find helpful:
- T:TDYK - for nominating articles to be featured on the Main Page at the "Did You Know..." column.
- WP:WIAGA - Good article criteria.
- WP:GAN - for nominating articles for Good Article status.
- WP:WIAFA - Featured article criteria.
- WP:FAC - for nominating articles to be featured.
- WP:WIAFL - Featured list criteria.
- WP:FLC - for nominating list articles to be featured.
- WP:CVU - the Counter-Vandalism Unit.
- WP:ROLL - a documentation page about rollback, a user right which allows you to revert vandalism at lightning speeds. I am an example of a user who has rollback.
- WP:PERM/R - this is where you can request rollback. Unfortunately, I doubt you'd get approved right now – you're just coming off of a community ban, and you took a wikibreak for over two weeks after the unban. I would recommend at least waiting a month.
- Bear in mind that I'm posting this while listening to 3 Doors Down at nearly 1:00 a.m. (I hail from the lovely Bay State), so my mind may not be completely clear. :P Cheers, Dylan620 (contribs, logs) 04:59, 31 July 2009 (UTC)
Removed speedy deletion tag: Paul reisler
Hi Ziggy Sawdust! I just wanted to inform you that I removed the speedy deletion tag you placed on Paul reisler- because: the article makes a credible claim of importance or significance. If you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact me. decltype (talk) 09:11, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
Species articles
To the best of my understanding, they're quite acceptable over here as well. No reason they can't exist on both. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoLo dicono a Signa. 07:45, 16 August 2009 (UTC)

I got your message at my talk. I've replied there. --Tryptofish (talk) 18:24, 14 January 2010 (UTC)
Talk:Climate change exaggeration
Thank you for your contributions to the encyclopedia! In case you are not already aware, an article to which you have recently contributed, Climate change exaggeration, is on article probation. A detailed description of the terms of article probation may be found at Misplaced Pages:General sanctions/Climate change probation. Also note that the terms of some article probations extend to related articles and their associated talk pages.
The above is a templated message. Please accept it as a routine friendly notice, not as a claim that there is any problem with your edits. Thank you. -- TS 16:30, 25 February 2010 (UTC)
