The 6 Lexington Avenue Local is a train line in the New York Subway. It runs from Pelham Bay Park in the Bronx to Lower Manhattan. Being part of the IRT Lexington Avenue Division, it shares its route and stations with the 4-Lexington Avenue Express and the 5-Lexington Avenue Express from 125 Sreet in Harlem to New York City Hall in Lower Manhattan.

The 6 is a crowded line because it is the only East Side local train. Service is frequent, and runs 24 hours daily.

Some 6's run express in the Bronx during rush hours, skipping stops going into Manhattan in the AM, out from Manhattan in the PM.

Other info

The 6 was the train in the 1974 film "The Taking of Pelham One Two Three", about hijackers holding hostages inside a subway car.

The 6 was also the train Jennifer Lopez rode in her early days to school. Her 1999 album is called "On the 6". This is a reference to the 6 train she rode.
