WCPX is the i network owned and operated station in Chicago. It transmits its analog signal on UHF channel 38, and its digital signal on UHF channel 43. There have been words that the station may possibly be sold thought NBC Universal would have first option, it already owns WSNS-TV 44 and WMAQ-TV 5, thus is at it's maximum. To buy WCPX NBC Universal would have to sell WSNS-TV. Both Tribune (Owners of WGN-TV) and Viacom (owner of CBS and WBBM-TV) have expressed interest

The WCPX callsign was previously used on WKMG in Orlando, Florida; the two stations are not related. The present-day WCPX in Chicago should also not be confused with WCPX-LP 48 in Columbus, Ohio.

History

Chicago's channel 38 was originally a construction permit for the Chicago Federation of Labor's WCFL-TV. That station was never built, and the construction permit was purchased by Christian Communications of Chicagoland in 1975. The station went on air under the WCFC call letters, and became the first station in Chicago with an all-religious programming lineup.

The station was sold to Paxson Communications in 1998. Its call letters were changed to WCPX, and it became a member station of the Pax TV network (renamed "i" in 2005).

Digital Broadcasting

WCPX currently operates 5 sub-channels on its digital signal:
