from #wikipedia
I am 26 and I live in Royal Berkshire in England. I have been a Wikipedian since February 2003. I am usually at the English Misplaced Pages but make over ten percent of my edits on other Wikimedia projects, especially Simple English and Meta. I have edited over 100 of the 300 Wikimedia projects and I am interested in finding ways of increasing ties and a spirit of collaboration between the different language Wikipedias. I have steward access, which means I can help set up new Wikimedia projects with admins and bureaucrats.
Wiki-Hopes
My long term hope for Wikimedia is continued growth and development, not only of articles, but also of the international community, whilst still respecting and maintaining our core principles of NPOV, Wikiquette, and the free and open nature of the content.
Wiki-Beliefs
Not a subscriber to the anti-wiki idea that anonymous users should not be allowed to edit, I believe that Wikimedia benefits from its open editing policies, and that all newcomers should be made to feel welcome. Over time, I have become slowly less of a deletionist, and find myself tending towards eventualism instead. However, I remain anti-inclusionist, and whilst recognising the weaknesses of the current deletion system, do not want a deletion management redesign. I do not believe that Misplaced Pages needs editors or referees. I do not think copyright paranoia should be ignored and prefer to seek alternatives to supposedly fair use images.
Wiki-Interests and activities
As a member of the mediation committee, I am interested in dispute resolution, sources of conflict and ways of reducing incivility and wikistress. When not updating articles and help pages, I am highly involved in policy issues, though I'm not sure the ability to recite the 13 candidates for speedy deletion is anything to be proud of. :) I'm an obsessive reader of the mailing lists and make an attempt to highlight important points from them on the goings-on page. Outside of Wikimedia, I follow a number of other wikis, including symbolwiki, where I am a bureaucrat, and MeatballWiki, where I am just a member of TheAudience.
My contributions to MediaWiki development include the addition of a disclaimers link at the top of each page, a variable that allows blocked users to email a sysop more easily, edit summaries in diff pages and PubMed links. Not all of these have gone live yet.
I avoid Wikistress by doing Misplaced Pages maintenance tasks, for which I was awarded this barnstar:
I award you this barnstar for your tireless work organising the village pump and votes for deletion pages, greeting of newcomers, fixing of vandalism, and all the other places you help grease the wheels of Misplaced Pages. :) Martin 14:33, 2 Jan
