What adminship is not
Adminship is not a trophy
Editors who regard being an administrator as an affirmation of their contributions as an editor or an award for good editing or other good service will generally be disappointed. Administrator status does not place you in an elevated status within Misplaced Pages. Every good-faith editor, from the newest editor to the most experienced bureaucrat, has the same status within Misplaced Pages. You will not gain respect simply by being an administrator.
Adminship is not a sheriff's badge
While administrators have additional privileges within the system, such as being able to delete pages and block users, every administrator must keep in mind that administrators are servants of Misplaced Pages as a whole. This means that all policies apply equally to all admins, just as they apply to non-privileged users. Administrators should take care to follow policy at all times, especially WP:CON.
Adminship is not a reward
High edit counts and a dedication to Misplaced Pages often demonstrate reliability and aptitude for adminship. However, contributing for a length of time as an editor does not make one entitled to adminship. Candidates with high edit counts do sometimes fail, for various reasons. Such failures should not be taken personally, and a failure to pass a RfA does not indicate that the community fails to appreciate your contributions. Sometimes users with many contributions simply do not have the proper temperament to be an admin, and these users can be equally valuable without sysop privileges. No number of edits or length of time on Misplaced Pages entitles one to adminship.
Adminship is not diplomatic immunity
Administrators can be blocked just as normal users can be. Administrators are expected to follow all Misplaced Pages policies, and restrictions on editing or sysop privileges can be imposed by other administrators or the Arbitration Committee, if necessary. Policies such as WP:3RR often do result in administrators being blocked if they run afoul of them.
