Aquino IV (born May 8, 1977) is a Filipino TV host and former chairperson of the National Youth Commission of the Philippines. In February 2003 he became the youngest person in Philippine history to head a government agency when he was appointed at age 26 to become Chairman of the National Youth Commission.
The son of Paul Aquino, he is the nephew of late former Senator Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino, Jr. and former President Corazon Aquino, and the cousin of the fifteenth President of the Philippines Benigno Aquino III.
As a host, Aquino was featured in youth-oriented shows on Studio 23’s “Y-Speak” and “Breakfast” then later on in ANC’s entrepreneurship show “Start-Up”. He has also starred as Ninoy Aquino in the August 2009 docu-film "The Last Journey of Ninoy", which chronicled the last few days of his uncle. The film was produced by Unitel Productions and the Benigno S. Aquino Jr. Foundation.
Early life and education
Paolo Benigno "Bam" Aquino IV was born on May 8, 1977 in Manila. Aquino is the son of Paul Aquino, brother of the late former Senator Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino, Jr.. He was named after his uncle, who was in jail at the time. At eight, he was already his dad's little helper in campaign sorties.
After graduating valedictorian and summa cum laude with a BSC in Management Engineering from Ateneo de Manila University, Aquino went to the Ateneo Law School for a year and a half. He then went to work with the ABS-CBN Foundation for special projects that required him to organize youth volunteers. During the Joseph Estrada debacle, Bam was at the forefront of student groups clamoring for a renewed society.
National Youth Commission
In 2001, Aquino was appointed to the National Youth Commission of the Philippines as commissioner-at-large. The National Youth Commission (NYC) is the sole national policy-making and coordinating body on youth affairs. In February 2003, Aquino was upgraded to chairperson of the NYC, becoming the youngest person in Philippine history to head a government agency.
