ANI

You are being discussed on WP:ANI. Verbal chat 14:24, 29 June 2010 (UTC) here: Slrubenstein | Talk 15:17, 29 June 2010 (UTC)

Note that we said you should be banned from "edits on topics", not "edits on articles". This really would be a good time not to push things. --SarekOfVulcan (talk) 19:34, 1 July 2010 (UTC)

A six month block is serious, and you should interpret it to mean that a range of experienced editors - not people involved in debates with you on the Jesus talk page, but a more general group - identify your pattern of editing and contributing to talk page discussions as counterproductive. You should take this seriously.

BUT: you were not banned. You have been blocked for six months, which means that the community believes that you are capable of learning from your mistakes. Also, you were blocked only from a limited set of articles, which means that the community believes you are capable of good editing now. I strongly advise you to take advantage of this warning and second chancem to learn how to be a productive and effective editor. There are two ways you can do this.

First, all newbies ought to read the "five pillars" carefully. Judging from your behavior, I think you did not, or did not understand them, because anyone who read them and understood them would not have made the edits you made. You are blocked from editing certain articles - I urge you to use the time you would have used to read the five pillars carefully.

Second, work on other articles. There is a bit of advice that circulates widely at Misplaced Pages: you should work on articles that are on topics you have no interest in. That is because this minimizes the chance that you will violate NPOV or NOR or use the talk page as a soap box or chat room. Just look at random articles and see if you can improve on the style. Or find articles with notices that they are poorly researched - and do the research necessary to turn them into good articles. Or look for articles on controversial newsworthy topics, these are usually pretty active and draw a diverse group of editors. Just read the discussions, see how editors enter into and resolve conflicts. If you think you can make a positive contribution, try to, but be attentive to how other editors respond to your efforts. The point is, to learn from other editors, and to practice improving articles, as a way of learning to become a good editor.

Then, when the six month block is up, you can return to the articles you are most interested in and make serious contributions that others will value.

If you return in six months and it is clear you have learned nothing, you will just be blocked again, or banned. I am giving you the advice hoping to help you avoid that. Slrubenstein | Talk 10:39, 2 July 2010 (UTC)

Topic ban

Hi Will, I've closed the AN/I discussion as there's consensus that your edits are problematic and that a topic ban is appropriate. You're therefore asked not to make edits to Christian, Hebrew, Roman, and Egyptian topics—broadly construed, and to include talk pages—for six months, and to note that the ban can be enforced by any uninvolved admin using escalating blocks if necessary. It may be reviewed after three months if you wish it to be reviewed.

In the meantime, I hope you'll find other areas of Misplaced Pages to edit in, and that you'll also use the time to become familiar with the content policies—WP:NPOV, WP:V, and WP:NOR. Feel free to ping me after three months for advice about having the ban looked at again. Cheers, SlimVirgin 01:36, 3 July 2010 (UTC)
