- Anarchy can mean a society based on the principles of one or more strain(s) of the political theory anarchism.
- Critics of anarchism, and others not intending to criticise or confuse, sometimes use the term to describe what might more accurately be called anomie.
- The Anarchy is the name most often given to the period of civil war and unsettled government which occurred in England during the reign of King Stephen I.
