Explanations

I took my picture out and changed my user name for the same reason -- anonymity. My name is still visible anyway so I'll "re"-add my picture. I'm from Hyderabad (Deccan), which explains why my contributions are all associated with this city. Thanks for your interest. Please let me know if you need any editing or contributions. I'll be happy to oblige. Salma 04:40, 24 January 2006 (UTC)

Qawwali

It is nice to see someone so passionate about Qawwali engaging with the Misplaced Pages.

I have made the move to Qawwali as the main article on the subject. What do you think?

By the way, have you heard traditional Qawwalis much? Nusrat Fateh brought a lot of us to the form, but there is also great depth and richness in the wider tradition and its spiritual background...iFaqeer (Talk to me!) 02:31, Apr 19, 2005 (UTC)

Nice to hear back from you. And nice to see a young fan of Qawwali that is in touch with traditional Qawwali.
Here's something you might be interested in: I have just finally got to publishing my thoughts and translations on Sufi Poetry in Urdu. For now, it will be mainly on the following page:

I like the idea

A reference for Islamic and Muslim cultural concepts often referred to in the zeitgeit/pop culture, you mean :D. That's a long title, but it's needed. It would be a counterpart to: List of Islamic terms in Arabic....I like it. I am sure we can structure it so it ... er ... helps enhance the usefulness of Misplaced Pages as a reference rather than is just a refutation page.

First thing we need to do is check if there isn't already such a page :DiFaqeer (Talk to me!) 04:25, Apr 28, 2005 (UTC)

AOA

Congrats on the cogent arguments on Islam. Well put.

I think we share many of the same concerns about Islam-bashing on WP, which has really reached shameful levels. (Take a look at the claims re: textual criticsm on Qur'an if you're looking for something else to get angry about, which I doubt.)

When you get a chance, can you email me at yusuf.toropov@gmail.com? I have an idea I'd like to discuss with you. Ma-salaam, BYT BrandonYusufToropov 20:40, 12 May 2005 (UTC)

Origins of the name "Anonymous editor"

Originally written by Farhansher: "Hi , whatsup with this name"

LOL. Do you like it? I chose it a week ago on the "Islam and other religions" section when user zora told said that instead of being an "anonymous editor" I should take a name. So, from then on I became known as the "Anonymous editor".

About me: I usually focus on Islam and Islam-related articles as I converted to Islam recently. Like many others, I hate extreme POVs and Islam-bashing especially by people who know nothing about this great religion.

Thanks for asking.

No, I did not come because of an invitation from a forum. Thanks...--Anonymous editor 22:41, Jun 6, 2005 (UTC)

Links (response)

In response:

Yes, I underestand completely, but I still believe that we should provide viewers with an appropriate list of general links that educate them about the religion. This is integral to clarify the tenets of the religion. Very few users will actaully use directory for general info about the religion. Critical links are given in the directory and I clearly restate that a religion does not need POV in the first place because it is factuality rather than an issue. The links I listed are factual and I ofcourse did not link them for POV, but for factuality. But, yes, I do understand what you were saying, thanks for informing me. --Anonymous editor 19:10, Jun 12, 2005 (UTC)

Forums

HI Farhanser, I noticed that you asked some people from certain forums to come to Misplaced Pages to start editing the Islam pages. We've recently had an outbreak of trouble on these pages. Can you tell me please which forums you posted that message on? I'm trying to work out how best to stop the personal attacks and reverting on these pages, so any information at all would be most helpful. Cheers, SlimVirgin 08:14, Jun 14, 2005 (UTC)

the Islam flamewars

re , I do not think it is helpful to add such brainless ranting to Talk pages, even with a view to making your opponents look bad. You added this: Others say he is just doing it to stay away from entering into debate with some real Islamic scholars , and as a result , risk of losing his following. to the Ali SIna article a short while ago. Mysticism

Hmmm. Theoretically, there can be mysticism in the Islamic context outside of Sufism, which is usually based on Sunni tradition. But then I guess some of the Shia-based mystical orders are also called Sufi...thinking as I go here. Maybe redirect? Moved 'evidence' pages to your user namespace

I moved "Sina plans to attack WP : Thread 1" to User:Farhansher/Sina plans to attack WP : Thread 1 and "Sina plans to attack WP : Thread 2" to User:Farhansher/Sina plans to attack WP : Thread 2. These are not articles and should not be in the article namespace. In your user namespace, it's unlikely they'll be deleted, but you could also move them to Talk: subpages or the Misplaced Pages: namespace (in the latter, though, they'll probably get deleted).

Thanks, —Morven 19:05, July 26, 2005 (UTC)

Opposition, Criticism, or Anti-

With the exception of Islam, most major religions have "Anti-". For example, Anti-Judaism, Anti-Catholicism, Anti-Protestantism, Criticism of Islam, Criticism of Mormonism. The problem with the title "Opposition to Mormonism" is that it is tooo POV. Opposition to illegal drugs, opposition to racisim, ok. How POV can you get about the pros and cons of racism? LoL. The only diehard opponents to Mormonism are other Christians. The old title assumes that all people are opposed to the religion, or that few people question reasons for its opposition, which is just not true. Anyway, I would like for you to edit the Criticism of Islam article. The article is accessible via the Islam template. As it currently stands, the article makes little attempt at being non-POV. --JuanMuslim 04:48, 20 September 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads up. I am sorry to say that I am not very knowledgable on the issue, but I find Zora's version to be shorter, cleaner, more precise and more neutral than Zeno's. I propose that the article be replaced with Zora's version and any smaller edits can be done later. Thanks, a.n.o.n.y.m 21:15, 11 October 2005 (UTC)
As for the Dhul-Qarnayn article, I think its better to focus on the article Criticism of Islam. It's full of inaccuracies and exaggerations. As for the Islamophobia article, look through the article's history, and if you think anything should not have been deleted readd it.--JuanMuslim 21:58, 14 October 2005 (UTC)

تبادله خيال actually means exchange of thoughts . There were better words for this . Like pure persian گفت وشنید , or hindi version بات چـیت . But since Urdu wiki uses this word , I thought it would be better to stick to it . BTW , I couldnt understand , congrats for what ,& how your g/f went missing!! And what made you think خيال means horse . F.a.y. 21:08, 16 October 2005 (UTC)
So خيال means thoughts in Urdu. I tried to figure it out somehow as it means perceptions/dreams in Arabic (khayal), while (khiyyal) would mean horses and that's why I said it ;). No big deals about my ex being missed (I am not a serial killer). I think she just thought it was better for her to leave (this bighead) me alone! Islamic scientists

The list that I worked on contained scientists mostly from Iran and Persia. But I did give a list of names and short biographies of non-Iranian muslim scientists to User:Yuber a while ago. He said he would work on the list. I dont know whether he finished it. We also planned to make one huge jumbo muslim list of all the scientists from all countries. I dont know if that project was started either. Category:Muslim_Scientists

Hey, before you do any more work just know that it should be Category:Muslim_scientists... no capital for scientist... just thought you should know since it will have to be changed at some point. Also, you're getting into tricky ground with Arab astronomoers being Muslim scientists... to an extent yes.... but, we mustn't forget that Arab does not equal Muslim... because, in literature at least Arab Christians helped with a huge revival during An-nahdah Al-adabiyah... (do we have an article on that?). So... the first thing is just techinical... the second gets a lot trickier and I don't think we can really generalize quite that much. gren グレン 12:17, 25 October 2005 (UTC)

Sufism

I think it would be better if we started a single article named Sufi Philosophies and add cosmology & Lataif-e-Sitta in it . Since there will be a lot more concepts/philosophies coming up , I think it would be nice to have all of them in one article , rather than different pages . F.a.y. 21:33, 28 October 2005 (UTC)

Why not both? My conception of an ideal wiki article is a hub, linking to related texts. You can always summarise on a central page, but whey lose content which can exist on a subpage? Sufi philosopy is going to result in a huge amount of content, over time. What we need to do is set up a good framework. Sam Spade 21:37, 28 October 2005 (UTC)
Sure I can help a bit with North African Sufism, it is radically different from Sufism practiced by non-native speakers of Arabic though and I'll have to explain tons of it.--The Brain 09:31, 12 November 2005 (UTC)

Hey, for this picture you need to add what license you release it under since you are the creator. You can do something like Template:PD-self or Template:GFDL-self, there might be other options... but, you creating it gives us the source, we now need to know how you release it... and for it to be on wikipedia it has to be a free license. Dear Farhansher , I did several edits to Sufism article , my goal was to clarify what different people think about Sufism , I guess it is worth its effort because no branch of Islam is prone to basic misunderstanding as Sufism. Some call it basically of non-Islamic origin and some try to define it in the framework of orthodox Islam to the point of ignoring the fact that Sufism is indeed more than religious piety and devotion.IF you feel my edits present a distorted image , please add or change as needed.Pasha 04:02, 20 November 2005 (UTC)

"Islamaphobia"

You said that the Qu'ran doesn't say that turning away from Islam is punishable by death, and that that sentence was put in the article by an islamaphobe. The Qu'ran may not say this, but that doesn't mean it doesn't occur. I've heard of thousands of deaths of muslims who turned away from islam. Scorpionman 16:13, 8 December 2005 (UTC)

Salah

Salaam. By your edits to the salah thread, I'm going to go out on a limb and say you are Sunni and you follow the Hanafi mahdhab? I say this because of your seperating the Duha and the Ishraq. While most of the sub-continent hanafi ulema will say that it is two seperate prayers, many of the Arab hanafi's, as well as, to my knowledge, the ulema of the other mahdhabs will say that it is just one prayer. Pepsidrinka 22:03, 27 December 2005 (UTC)

Yeah, mentioning that it is mostly according to hanafi scholars. Also, make sure you keep it NPOV, mentioning that the majority of these prayers are not performed by Shi'as, and are in fact considered a bidah. FYI, I also follow the hanafi madhab. Pepsidrinka 22:13, 27 December 2005 (UTC)

Offensive jihad

Dude, you should only replace an article with a redirect when what you're redirecting to provides an adequate substitute. Unfortunately, the article "Combative jihad" is a chaotic ungrammatical misspelled disorganized mess (with a stupid name) which does not provide an adequate substitute for the "Offensive jihad" article at this time. Therefore, stop blanking the Offensive jihad" article. AnonMoos 02:45, 28 December 2005 (UTC)

Aisha, Infidel, and Dhimmi

It would be appreciated if you could contribute to the current disputes at these articles. Yuber 20:08, 29 December 2005 (UTC)

enlisting meatpuppets for edit wars again Yuber... shame on you. -_- I'll be collecting examples of the many more stuff like this you do to be going to the admins. --Mistress Selina Kyle 20:30, 29 December 2005 (UTC)

Sockpuppet accounts

Rfa thanks

Hello Farhansher. Thank you for supporting my Rfa! I will try my best to be a good administrator. Please ask me if you need any help. --a.n.o.n.y.m 17:43, 6 January 2006 (UTC)

Thanks!

Hi Farhanshar! Thanks for your congratz on my adminship, I will do my best to be a good one. I don't remember having any negative interactions with you! I'd ask you when they were, but perhaps it's better to leave it in the past. Look forward to seeing you around! Babajobu 15:11, 7 January 2006 (UTC)

Context

I have tagged a few of your articles {{wikfy}}{{context}} but it probably applies to several others. As far as context goes, it is probably sufficient to begin each article: In Sufi philosophy Haal is ... But the total absence of wikilinks is unforgivable. Please spend more time on each article providing proper outgoing links. -- RHaworth 07:02, 8 January 2006 (UTC)

Eid Mubarak

Eid Saeed ! All the best for the holidays! --Irishpunktom\ 17:19, 10 January 2006 (UTC)

Salaam. Eid Mubarak. Insha'allah everything went (and is going) well. Pepsidrinka 20:28, 10 January 2006 (UTC)

It never occured to me that you lived IN Pakistan. I figured you were Pakistani living in a western country, but that is what I get for assuming. Nonetheless, I have heard Eid stories from friends and relatives from Pakistan that Eid is alot more exciting over there, and in other Muslim countries in general. Eid over here is really just limited to the first day (both eid al-fitr and eid al-adha) where we do our salat, visit elders and other relatives, and then a big community get together during the night. It's good though, nothing to complain about. Well I guess I can complain about how much better Pakistani food is in Pakistan than over here. Enjoy. Pepsidrinka 20:40, 10 January 2006 (UTC)
Eid Mubarak to you Farhanser! --a.n.o.n.y.m 00:33, 11 January 2006 (UTC)

Divisions

Hi, regarding Divisions of Islam, maybe you could put the info you told me about Qadiriyyih onto the article. Add a summary of the two schools in the proper place and mention the name thing. Cuñado - Talk 20:15, 12 January 2006 (UTC)

Sufi poetry

I've been working on the article on Persian literature and one of the main things lacking is a reference to the influence of the poetry of Rumi, Sa'di, Hafiz, Attar, etc. on Sufi poetry throughout the Islamic world. I'll try to put a section there and then set up a link to an article on Sufi poetry, with special attention to poetry as used in dhikr. Zora 21:25, 16 January 2006 (UTC)

Re:Allah

Hi Farhansher! Literally speaking, Allah or Al-lah means "The God" (as you can see the definite article of Al which means The in English). However, theologically, the issue is a bit complex. When you say la ilah illa allah this would translate to there's no god but The God. IMO, as of most Muslims, Allah is the arabic word of God (the Abrahamic God). Lahoot is a derived word, yes. I am not sure if I could answer your questions. Cheers -- Szvest 15:17, 19 January 2006 (UTC)

2006 bin Laden video

I recently started 2006 bin Laden video. Please improve it in any way you see fit. Thanks. KI 23:24, 19 January 2006 (UTC)

Hello Farhansher. I have created a new template which you might be interested in called Template:PakistanTopics .--a.n.o.n.y.m 20:19, 21 January 2006 (UTC)

formal support vote

It seems like you support the compromise at Islamist terrorism, could you place a formal vote of support?(60% is required for a page move).--Urthogie 13:11, 22 January 2006 (UTC)

RfA Thanks

Please accept my embarrassingly belated thank you for supporting my RfA, which much to my surprise passed 102/1/1, earning me minor notoriety. I am grateful for all the supportive comments, and have already started doing the things people wanted me to be able to do. And hopefully nothing else... Just zis  Guy, you know? / AfD? 12:13, 24 January 2006 (UTC)

Some articles to look out for

There is some bigoted POV-pushing on Islam:_What_the_West_Needs_to_Know, Jihad_Watch, and Honor Killing. Yuber 23:15, 24 January 2006 (UTC)

Images

You will usually have to ask the person who made it or has it on his website to give you permission, maybe be email. Otherwise you can also try to find some on the internet which are under the free license. Check Misplaced Pages:Copyrights. Those images that you found are pretty good. --a.n.o.n.y.m 23:14, 28 January 2006 (UTC)

Philosophy

You are correct. I added it to the science template instead. Maybe we should just have one template with science, arts, and more. --a.n.o.n.y.m 21:59, 29 January 2006 (UTC)

You know what? I was going to do the same thing and combine the templates into one about studies. You read my mind. I changed the title to studies so you will have to go to Islamic studies.
Can you help me by adding the template to all the articles? Thanks --a.n.o.n.y.m 19:57, 30 January 2006 (UTC)
Ok.:) Good work. --a.n.o.n.y.m 20:14, 30 January 2006 (UTC)

Cunyado

Might I suggest you nominate such a cheery and experienced user for adminship? I would do so my self, but I am relatively new here. Let me also suggest, since this is the 100th comment on your talk page, that you archive. Thanks. P.S. Jeff3000 would also be a great admin. KI 02:07, 31 January 2006 (UTC)

Infidel page

I protected it because of the edit war. --a.n.o.n.y.m 00:36, 1 February 2006 (UTC)

You might want to ask Pepsidrinka or Joturner but they aren't admins or maybe ask Gren? --a.n.o.n.y.m 15:58, 2 February 2006 (UTC)
Actually I've already asked an admin whose dealt with this before to check it out. --a.n.o.n.y.m 16:08, 2 February 2006 (UTC)
I commented on it on the talk page under "translations" right before the vote. --a.n.o.n.y.m 14:15, 3 February 2006 (UTC)
Okay I will look through the pages. Maybe you should mention this to Palmiro too. When will you be back to discuss? --a.n.o.n.y.m 20:18, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

Dhimmi

I have put the "in use" tag on the Dhimmi page to avoid edit conflicts. Please refrain from editing the article while the tag is in place. Thanks.--Pecher 22:09, 1 February 2006 (UTC)

Re:Kafir

I see no reason why the relation of "kafir" to "infidel" must be made conditional upon the relation of "goy or "nastik" to "infidel". These are separate issues meriting separate consideration. Anyway, if you wish to make an argument, supply your sources. On a separate note, you may want to archive your talk page, as it has become unwieldy.--Pecher 14:54, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

Why do you believe that "kafir" and "infidel" are so different? The article on Kafir says that "It is often rendered into English as 'infidel'".--Pecher 15:27, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

Pool 3

Dear Ferhansher,

I would like you please support Pool 3. It can help to delete these insults and have something acceptible. Thanks 216.248.124.210 10:04, 4 February 2006 (UTC)
