The R.E.D. Album is the upcoming fourth studio album by American rapper Game, which is scheduled to be released on Aftermath Entertainment and Interscope Records. Production for the album will come from Dr. Dre, Cool & Dre, The Neptunes, 1500 or Nothin, Timbaland, Jim Jonsin, Drumma Boy, Scoop DeVille, Kanye West, No I.D., Eminem, Jeff Bhasker, Swizz Beatz, will.i.am, DJ Premier, RZA, Just Blaze, DJ Khalil, DJ Quik, Nottz, Hi-Tek, Maestro, Bangladesh, Mike Lynn, Ryan Leslie, Dessy Des, TreBeatz, J. R. Rotem, Polow da Don, StreetRunner, J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League and Tha Bizness.
Conception
Background
Although Game had previously stated and confirmed that he would retire after the release of his 2008 album, LAX, sometime after its release he stated,
"Interscope Records don't want me to retire; they want me to come back in February with another album, which is so far off my radar it's ridiculous. Now, if you give me like five, ten million dollars or something to do it…I'm the biggest thing in that building now, with the recent demise of G-Unit, and that's just it, man."
However, later in May 2009 it was confirmed and announced that Game began working on a new album titled D.O.C. or Diary of Compton, if he could get help from the original N.W.A members. In November 2009, HipHopDX interviewed Game and he stated that the reason he would not release D.O.C. this time was because he needed help and focus from Dr. Dre, Ice Cube and Snoop Dogg and the key elements were not there when he started the project. Game also stated
"What I was working on, the fans just started calling it R.E.D. for some reason, I don't even know. I had previously said that I would re-dedicate myself to Hip Hop, and they just took that and was like R.E.D. - rededicated. I went along with it, man".
Recording
Game recorded with Timbaland and Drumma Boy in Los Angeles. Game revealed to MTV that he had been working with J. R. Rotem, Mike Lynn, Cool & Dre and hopes to get production from Kanye West. In an interview with XXL, Boi-1da stated that he had given beats to Game for the album. Game stated that Dr. Dre and Pharrell will be executive producing the album. However Game has recently stated that he is now "unclear" if Dr. Dre will be producing on the album.In January 2010, Game revealed to Billboard that DJ Khalil had contributed to the production for the album.
XXL confirmed features including Lil Wayne, Lady Gaga, Pharrell, Gucci Mane and Kanye West. He revealed to Rap-Up that Chris Brown and Dr. Dre would be featured on the album. Akon has also been confirmed to be featured on a track titled "Would I Be Wrong?" with production from Polow da Don. Game confirmed a collaboration with Justin Timberlake saying that "I never thought in my life that I would ever work with Justin, and then for it to turn out and be as catastrophic as it was amazing." He also confirmed that he enlisted Nicki Minaj for a feature. Game recorded a song with Jim Jones and Jadakiss titled "Gangs in New York" which highlights production from Scoop DeVille. Game revealed that he collaborated with Rick Ross, Robin Thicke, Ashanti, Bow Wow , Beanie Sigel & Jay Electronica. Game revealed that RZA also contributed to production to the album. Game also stated that rapper Shyne would be a guest on the album.
On June 11, Game leaked a song on his twitter account titled "We Do It Big". It features Yung Joc and samples "Juicy" by The Notorious B.I.G.. He also spoke in an interview on 95.7 The Beat's live chat in which he stated Nas, 'will not make the album this time, but that's my big brother'. Game, also gave his thoughts on Drake, Eminem, and Will Smith. In addition to this Game confirmed Dr. Dre, Nelly Furtado, Justin Timberlake, Robin Thicke, T.I. and Snoop Dogg will be featured on the album. With production coming from Dr. Dre, The Neptunes, Kanye West, and Timbaland. . During his promotional tour of the US, Game spoke to Jenny Boom Boom on Hot 97.3 and said pushbacks on his album have meant he's been able to work with DJ Toomp, and is also hoping to record with DJ Premier, before the album releases. Game confirmed fellow West Coast rapper Snoop Dogg, will appear twice on the album as well as Lupe Fiasco guest featuring on the album. He also stated 'pending we get the song cleared', Jay Electronica, and Nas will be featured on the album. On June 23 Game recorded the track #2 of the album titled "Good Girl, Bad Girl" at Encore Studios in Burbank, California, the track features Canadian rapper Drake and production from Cool & Dre, also Queen Latifah was in the recordings at the studio but didn't collaborate. Game revealed that Dr. Dre doesn't just produce on the album he's on there vocally. A song featuring Young Money Entertainment artist, Tyga, and Red Cafe that was made for the album also leaked. In August, producer Bangladesh, stated that he had been sending Game tracks for the album. Later in August, producer Drumma Boy, stated that he had produced a song for the album that also featured Young Buck, and was hoping to get Nipsey Hussle on the track as well. Black Wall Street artist, Mysonne, also confirmed that he had worked on the album with Game. In October 2010, a track featuring R&B singer Ryan Leslie, entitled "We On" was released.

Game confirmed that Production for the album would be contributed by both Dr. Dre and Pharrell Williams where both will be serving as executive producer's, the album will also be contributed by Cool & Dre, The Neptunes, 1500 or Nothin, Timbaland, Jim Jonsin, Drumma Boy, Scoop DeVille, Kanye West, No I.D., Eminem, Jeff Bhasker, Swizz Beatz, will.i.am, DJ Premier, RZA, Just Blaze, DJ Khalil, DJ Quik, Nottz, Boi-1da, Hi-Tek, Maestro, Bangladesh, Mike Lynn, Ryan Leslie, Dessy Des, TreBeatz, J. R. Rotem, Polow da Don, StreetRunner, J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League and Tha Bizness.

In an interview with MTV Game Declares The R.E.D. Album The 'Most Lyrical' LP In Rap, the Rapper explains why 'soulful' fourth LP could be his best yet, in Mixtape Daily.
"If you going by current status of the artist's music, then, I mean, I gotta exceed," Game said. "This album is the most lyrical of them all, this album is the most lyrical album, period, point blank. I can say that about The R.E.D. Album."
"The R.E.D. Album is a little soulful," Game said, sitting in an L.A. studio recently.
"But I think that The R.E.D. Album takes you. ... It's crazy because it could be pre-Documentary, and it could be post-R.E.D. Album, like it's early and late. It's early and late, so it's just on time. If you could understand that. It's like I'm raw. Like some of the songs my flow is as raw as before I got with Dre."
As raw as they are, Game said the records are coming out very musical. "Then the songs are so big and melodic and so music-filled that you could tell that I've been around for a while," Game said.
"So, you know, that's the vibe and it's soulful, but it's still right where you need it to be. It's not too sample-heavy and not just that soulful where it takes away from what I do, and it isn't gonna bore you or tire you out. This album is going to be incredible, man, and I would say it's going to be my best album."
Game did acknowledge that he's said every album is going to be his "best."
"I just don't want to do that anymore," he said. "I'm just going to say it's going to be a great album, man. ... The whole theme behind it is just 'rededicated.' That's what the 'red' stands for. Some people think it stands for blood or red, but that's not the case. This album is rededicated to where I'm from, rededicated to my fans, rededicated to music, to my people, rededicated to you guys, rededicated to just the game in general, man. The things I've been recording as of late, man, have just been so catastrophic, man. I can't even begin to tell you that it's going to be dope."
Producer Polow da Don has given new hope though by revealing some exciting details about the album during an interview with MTV.
"The Game record is a hip-hop classic,” Polow promised. “It’s called ‘Would I Be Wrong?’ featuring Akon. It’s talking about coming from the ‘hood. I work all my life trying to get out the ‘hood, then when I get to a point where I could get out of the ‘hood, the ‘hood keeps calling me number one. Then the ‘hood is hating on me for trying to get out of the ‘hood. So what am I supposed to be doing at this point? Did I risk my life every day to stay in the ‘hood, or am I supposed to make a better life for my family? That’s kinda what the song is about.
His verse is crazy,” the producer added about Game. “It’s going through the whole 50 Cent beef, when he first went to the studio with Dre, he’s a painting a picture with his verses. With his new album, he’s already considered one of the best rappers, and he’s rapping like he’s angry people don’t consider him one of the best rappers. He’s spitting. He’s painting the pictures every song."
Game needs some more real records like this. I don’t wanna hear about how much money he has. He hasn’t made a bad album yet so I still have hope that this could end up being good, despite those two garbage singles he dropped this week.
Game described the album as the beauty of the sky meets the gangster of the streets, It’s just got a bit more color to it Game described. In an interview with Billboard asked What does the album title mean?, Game said:
"It was a title Pharrell and I came up with. It was like where I am at in my career. My last album felt like it might’ve been my last album, but it turned out not to be. So, this album is the rededication — to myself and to what I care about, like my friends, my family, my city, my hood, my genre and rap.
Presently due on August 24th, 2010 but pushed back again, Compton super-star Game is putting the finishing touches on R.E.D. In a recent conversation with HipHopDX, the Aftermath Entertainment star spoke about this album’s Los Angeles influence, particularly coming after 2008’s LAX long-player.
"The entire record, man,” declared Game, despite enlisting Virginia icon Pharrell Williams to co-executive produce the album alongside Compton Rap pioneer, Dr. Dre. “When you get this album, for the first three or four songs, you’re gonna feel like you’re somewhere, lost in 1994, man, in Los Angeles. After , it starts to brighten up. Then it goes back and gets hard, and then it lightens up again, and mellows out. That’s where Pharrell comes in. It was dope to have Dre and Pharrell on the same album, ’cause it could be a smooth roller-coaster ride. One long, nice ride on a new album."
In November of last year, Game mentioned an R.E.D. song titled “Ricky.” The rapper would not confirm details of the song’s inspiration, but considered it a highlight within the album. Based on the comment section at DX, six months later, Game was asked if he could reveal whether the song was inspired by "Freeway" Ricky Ross or perhaps the character from John Singleton’s 1991 film, Boyz n the Hood. Game maintained the suspense,
"Everybody can hear it. You can hear what it’s about That’s when it’ll go down. It keeps everybody on ice. You’ll appreciate it more when you don’t know what the fuck Game is about to hit you with you."
Game did add that “Ricky” is presently still slated to appear on R.E.D., Thanks to ChipChad. Despite being one of the most “beefing” rappers in the music industry, Game says his upcoming new “R.E.D.” album (his fourth solo project) is “beef” free. Updating his fans on the album, Game talked about what effects having no current rap beefs has had on his new album by describing his relationship with his executive producer, Pharrell Williams.
"The R.E.D. Album has presented me the opportunity to make the type of music I’ve always wanted to make and I’m free,"
he explained in an interview.
"I have no beefs and there’s nothing holding me back. I’m just having fun in the studio and I’m just recording man. I’m having the time of my life. Pharrell is my best hip-hop friend to date. Working with him has been nothing short of a catastrophic portion and every day that I can get in with that cat is different."
in an interview with Complex Game was asked about the cover art of the album and that there’s R.E.D. Album cover art that’s been floating around the Internet for a while. Game was asked if that was the official cover?, Game stated
"Nah, that was the cover, I thought it was a dope cover, I really loved it. But that’s gone, man. I changed it. You gonna absolutely love the new cover. the new artwork has nothing to do with my children at this point, other then taking care of them by putting it out. But this album is strictly for hardcore Game fans. This album, I’m telling you, this album is gonna be a dope album. And anybody that doesn’t like me or is a critic and can’t wait to say the album is trash, you won’t even be able to say it, guarantee.
Tour
The Black Wall Street Records leader Game had announced upcoming tour dates for performances in the U.K. for the summer of 2009. The West Coast-bred emcee made his first UK appearance since last December. Game returned to the UK with three live dates confirmed across the country. His albums have sold a total of half a million In the UK, and netted him worldwide sales of seven million. Game toured the UK last year and returned. Game assembled a coast-to-coast US trek to support his latest effort, LAX. The club/theater outing is scheduled to visit nearly 30 cities, starting with several California performances in mid-February. Beginning Feb. 18 and concluding Mar. 29, stops include Los Angeles, Phoenix, Sacramento, Portland, Seattle, Boise, Denver, Tulsa, Dallas, Houston, New Orleans, New Haven, Providence, Norfolk, New York and more.
"The R.E.D. Album, people think the R.E.D. stands for gangbanging," he said. "I am what I am. ... R.E.D.? That's rededicated. Rededicated to hip-hop ... to my 'hood, Compton. Rededicated to my family, rededicated to everything...It's a step up...it's a little soulful...I was wondering to myself how I'm gonna elevate myself and even change the field. Three albums, what do you talk about after three albums? I ain't selling crack and gangbanging and shooting sh*t up. My beefs have been down low. So what do you really talk about? I just wanna rap, man. I just wanna do music. Whatever it turns out to be, it turns out to be...I'm just gonna rap this time." (MTV) Game previously said LAX would be his final album but later killed rumors of his retirement.
"I'm on tour right now stackin' my paper," Game said in an interview. "Yeah, I ain't retiring man, I gotta work on my album man. I gotta keep giving the people, you know, the gangsta sh*t, straight outta Compton, four albums in, come this September or something like that. I'ma drop some new heat. I even got an album title." Promotional mixtapes
Game dropped his highly anticipated new mixtape, The Red Room, on April 26, 2010 with longtime collaborator DJ Skee. The tape was originally set to be one of DJ Drama's special "Gangsta Grillz" edition projects, but in the final hour, the rapper decided to make a change and go with Skee after Drama opted out when he heard a few of the jabs Game sent off in the recently released "400 Bars" song. So, as soon as Skee touched down in Los Angeles, he went directly into the studio to begin mixing The Red Room. he re-released "400 Bars", mixed down with a slew of popular beats and renamed it the "Skeemix." The original version of the 20-minute freestyle hit the web over a week ago, featuring Jay Electronica's "Exhibit C" instrumental for its duration. While catching up with his in the studio recently, Game admitted "400 Bars" was probably the toughest freestyle he's had to record. He previously released "300 Bars", which was done over a few days, and a "360", but says "400" takes the cake.
"That sh** was hard to do. '360' was just put together like from three 100 bar verses. It wasn't like I rapped straight through. "300" was long, like it took me two days to do," Game explained to BallerStatus.com. "And '400' came along and I got the opportunity over that Jay Electronica "Exhibit C" beat. I thought the beat was dope enough where I didn't have to change it, so I just wrote in my mind until I couldn't do it no more. I put it online the next day. I didn't know what people were gonna think about it because I haven't put out sh** in a long time, and they thought it was great. They thought it was dope, it was all over the websites. Everybody feelin' it, so I love that. Get ready for The R.E.D. Room".
The track definitely garnered excitement by fans, and that was its purpose, the rapper admits. So, next time, after taking some time off, he might even do 500, you never know.
"All I gotta do is drop '500 Bars"'when I'm ready. You know what I'm saying? If I go away for a year and I'm ready to come back, we just drop '500 Bars' and we right back where we left off," the rapper. joked".
Although The R.E.D. Room is definitely a precursor of what's to come on his upcoming R.E.D. Album, the rapper says he drops mixtapes strictly as a gift to his fans ... nothing else, an action he'll always do as long as he's a rapper.
"It ain't about that. It ain't about getting ready for the album. I don't care if they not ready for the album, or if they ready. It's free music for the fans," Game explained. "It's like 'I'm giving you something and then maybe you wanna return the favor, but you don't have to. But, here you go.' I still think that that is big and I think that's important".
The new mixtape is loaded with star power: Nipsey Hussle shows up on the recently leaked "Ha Ha"; Lil Wayne and Birdman on a track "Everything Red"; Los Angeles-based Kanary Diamonds makes four appearances; Busta Rhymes, Hurricane Chris, Fabolous, and of course, Game's Black Wall Street camp: XO, K-Young, Menace, Maad Maxx, and Juice.
While fans patiently await the release of Game's fourth LP The R.E.D. Album, the Compton rapper dropped his second mixtape, serving as an appetizer for fans until the main course comes later this year. Game re-ups with DJ Skee who plays host for Brake Lights released on August 3, 2010, the follow-up to April's Skee-helmed mixtape The R.E.D. Room. The free mixtape -- released via XXLMag.com -- features guest spots from Snoop Dogg, Nas, T.I., Akon, Rick Ross, Waka Flocka Flame, Busta Rhymes, Robin Thicke and Shawty Lo, among others, and DJ Toomp, JR Rotem and Rich Skillz all handled the production duties.
"Brake Lights is like an appetizer to The R.E.D. Album," Game told XXL. "I know a lot of people been waiting on R.E.D., so I wanted to put out something to hold my them over, while I finish up my album".
Singles
The first official single was "Ain't No Doubt About It", which features Justin Timberlake & Pharrell Williams. Later, in an interview with Complex, it was revealed that "Krazy", "Big Money," and "It Must Be Me", were all promotional singles for iTunes and digital download, indicating that none of them would actually make the album. He did however confirm in that same interview, that "Ain't No Doubt About It," wasn't supposed to be the first main single as it was a leak, but all the same it is still on the album. The single was released on May 18, 2010 to the iTunes Store The first official single off the album, is to be produced by Cool & Dre and is due to be released within the next few weeks, after it has been mixed and cleared.
Promo singles
The first promotional single was "Krazy", which was released on November 10, 2009 to the iTunes Store, followed by "Big Money" released on December 15, 2009 to the iTunes Store, "It Must Be Me" released on April 14, 2010 to the radio, then officially being released on April 27, 2010 to the iTunes Store and on February 3, 2010 game released another promo single entitled "Shake" but it wasn't released to the iTunes Store. Music videos have been shot for "Shake" and "It Must Be Me". MTV premiered the video for "Shake" on April 27, 2010. The video for the street single "It Must Be Me" was set to be premiered live on 106 & Park on June 4, 2010 but it never premiered. A video for the single "Ain't No Doubt About It" has also been shot but it hasn't been released yet.
