The Guild of Copy-Editors – September 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive

The Misplaced Pages Guild of Copy-Editors invite you to participate in the September 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive, a month-long effort to reduce the backlog of articles that require copy-editing. The drive will begin on 1 September at 00:00 (UTC) and will end on 30 September at 23:59 (UTC). The goals for this drive are to eliminate 2008 from the queue and to reduce the backlog to fewer than 5,000 articles.

Sign-up has already begun at the September drive page, and will be open throughout the drive. If you have any questions or concerns, please leave a message on the drive's talk page.

Before you begin copy-editing, please carefully read the instructions on the main drive page. Please make sure that you know how to copy-edit, and be familiar with the Misplaced Pages Manual of Style.

Awards and barnstars
A range of barnstars will be awarded to active participants. Some are exclusive to GoCE drives. More information on awards can be found on the main drive page.

Thank you; we look forward to meeting you on the drive!

The Milhist election has started!

The Military history WikiProject coordinator election has started. You are cordially invited to help pick fourteen new coordinators from a pool of twenty candidates. This time round, the term has increased from six to twelve months so it is doubly important that you have your say! Please cast your vote here no later than 23:59 (UTC) on Tuesday, 28 September 2010.

With many thanks in advance for your participation from the coordinator team,  Roger Davies 19:42, 17 September 2010 (UTC)

Category

Hi. You added back the category to Am. Rev. War on the basis that American Revolution was also in this cat. Are you aware that this category is a few days old and American Revolution was added today? . The same objections I raised on the talk page apply to that too. It is circular to argue that it's OK to include American Revolutionary War in this category because American Revolution is in it. (Why is it OK for American Revolution to be in this category?) US, a product of the British Empire?

This featured article British Empire refers to the US as a "product" of the British Empire (British_empire#Legacy). I am not too comfortable with the word as the US is generally seen to be a product of a bloody war against the British Empire. Just wanted to check with you on your views about the small but important statement in a widely viewed article. Zuggernaut (talk) 15:46, 27 September 2010 (UTC)

Warning vandals

Please warn vandals after you revert vandalism, preferably using templates such as those included with Twinkle. For example, you reverted this vandalism but did not leave the IP a warning template. If you had done so, the following warning templates would have led to a block for this IP and prevented the 15 following vandalism edits to smog. Thanks Jebus989 15:59, 30 September 2010 (UTC)

WP:BLP concerns

I've removed both your recent addition to Stephen Barrett and your comment about him on Talk:Weston Price. The latter is a clear WP:BLP violation. The addition to the article wasn't as much a direct BLP problem as it was just an agreement not to include because of BLP concerns. --Ronz (talk) 22:20, 7 October 2010 (UTC)

I found and noted the dates when the material was finally removed from the article. I added a link to Barrett v. Rosenthal to the article after looking everything over. --Ronz (talk) 23:25, 7 October 2010 (UTC)

Assessment fro Conservatism in the US article

I assessed the article as C per your request for assessment. There are still quite a few problems with it that I can see just by skimming through it. Here are some suggestions for further improvement:

  • Try to add a few more images.
  • Could stand to use a few more links
  • Take the inline citations out of the lede and add them where they belong in the article.
  • There are way way too many references. Try pruning out some of the less useful or unused ones.
  • You might want to consider breaking out the list of Notables into its own list article.
  • It needs some prose work. Some of the wording is a little too complex (too many big words).
  • Several sections still lack inline citations.

I hope this helps. --Kumioko (talk) 16:48, 14 October 2010 (UTC)

Talk:Weston Price

I've removed your comment from Talk:Weston Price as it appears to make accusations of improper behavior, and use those accusations as rational for content changes. --Ronz (talk) 15:06, 17 October 2010 (UTC)

Care to make an attempt to justify the comment, rather than harass me for hiding it? --Ronz (talk) 02:26, 18 October 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for toning down your language.
Please note that you've twice now removed my comments to the talk page, apparently by accident. --Ronz (talk) 02:45, 18 October 2010 (UTC)
Can you please stop making comments like this? I'm hoping you made it before your reading my previous comments here. --Ronz (talk) 03:04, 18 October 2010 (UTC)

Please do not attack other editors. Comment on content, not on contributors. Personal attacks damage the community and deter users. Please stay cool and keep this in mind while editing. Thank you. --Ronz (talk) 02:23, 18 October 2010 (UTC)
