IPod, an mp3 player produced by Apple Computer. The iPod is a small, white, hard disk drive based player, with a very simple user interface based on a central scroll wheel.

The iPod was originally available with a 5 gigabyte hard drive. A later edition introduced a 10 gig version. In 2002, the iPod was updated with a touch-sensitive (rather than moving) scrollwheel, and a 20 gig version.

Connectivity for the iPod is through a Firewire (IEEE 1394) port, capable of transmitting data at 400 mbps.

The iPod was originally only compatible with Macintosh computers, but with the addition of the 20 gig version, is also available in a Windows version, formatted to FAT32 instead of HFS.
