Prince Willem-Alexander (born April 27, 1967) is the eldest son of Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands and Claus von Amsberg and the first male heir to the Dutch throne in 116 years.

Willem-Alexander has a degree in history. He is an expert in international water management issues: shortage in one area, floods elsewhere, effects of climatic change, sanitation and distribution problems, political tensions caused by all this. He attends and often addresses international conferences and symposiums on the subject.

He married Maxima Zorreguieta Cerruti on February 2, 2002, upholding the tradition in the Dutch monarchy of choosing a controversial partner.
