St Christopher Iba Mar Diop College of Medicine is a medical training establishment in Luton, England and Dakar, Senegal. The medical college is listed in the International Medical Education Directory (IMED) as a college within the University El Hadji Ibrahima Niasse of Dakar, Senegal. Univeriste El Hadji Ibrahima Niasse (UEIN) was chartered in February 2000 (vide Ref 000809/AG/MEN/DES) by the Ministry of Higher Education, Senegal and is permanently recognized by the Government of Republic of Senegal, to confer MD Degree to students who are eligible to practice medicine in the country.

St. Christopher Iba Mar Diop College of Medicine was issued a Charter with the right to confer the degree of Doctor of Medicine (MD) which carries with it eligibility for licensure of said graduates, as of February 25, 2000. Saint Christopher’s College of Medicine in Luton, England is a satellite of Saint Christopher Iba Mar Diop College of Medicine in affiliation with the University of El Hadji Ibrahima NIASSE of Dakar Senegal. The government of Senegal recognizes the programs that are currently taught at Saint Christopher Iba Mar Diop College of Medicine in Luton, England as well as the programs previously taught at Saint Christopher's College of Medicine.

The Basic Science curriculum of the medical training is taught in French and English and is conducted in the Luton, UK Campus (English), and at the main campus, Dakar, Senegal (French and English). The college has affiliations with hospitals for the clinical phase of the medical training within the United Kingdom, United States, Canada, and Senegal. Students and graduates of St. Christopher Iba Mar Diop are eligible to sit for the United States Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) and eligible for certification from the United States Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG).

According to the IMED listing, the college was formerly named St. Christopher's College of Medicine, and diplomas prior to 2006 were awarded under that name rather than by the university. Degrees from this establishment have been listed as unacceptable by the General Medical Council in the United Kingdom and some state governments in the United States. After the General Medical Council GMC had removed all privileges, the academic authorities of Saint Christopher Iba Mar Diop College of Medicine, the Director and the Dean assure permanent control of the academic departments and the administrative functions to which they have agreed upon and signed on December 13, 2005.

Accreditation, Registration, & Licensing

United Kingdom

The Accreditation Service for Internation Colleges Accreditation Service for International Colleges - ASIC list SCIMD as a Premier Status College. In 2005, SCIMD was the subject of BBC coverage which highlighted the school as an example of a loophole allowing essentially unregulated medical schools to operate in the UK. This led to an investigation by the General Medical Council, resulting in the withdrawal of registration of at least one doctor, and the publication of a list of schools deemed unacceptable for registration, including St. Christopher. The GMC website was subsequently amended to include a list of schools deemed unacceptable for registration, including St Christopher. SCIMD College of Medicine is now accredited by the UK-based Accreditation Service for International Colleges, which allows foreign students to enter the UK to study, but it still lacks UK academic accreditation and is deemed unacceptable by the GMC for primary registration.

United States

• Alabama lists the school in a list of "Colleges of Medicine or Schools of Medicine" which are not approved by the Board for applications for certificates of qualification.
• Arkansas list the school on their list of disapproved international medical schools and graduates are unable to receive a license or accepted as residents or fellows after August 1, 2008
• California does not list the school as "recognized" medical school. Per the Medical Board of California, "The education and training received at an unrecognized or disapproved medical school is not acceptable for licensure in California."
• Indiana uses California's list of recognized medical schools for the purpose of licensure, thereby making graduates similarly unlicenseable.
• Maine lists the school on their list of "Unaccredited Post-Secondary Educational Institutions".
• Oregon Office of Degree Authorization lists the school on their list of "degree suppliers that do not meet the requirements of ORS 348.609(1)."
• Texas lists the school on their list of "Institutions Whose Degrees are Illegal to Use in Texas" as defined by Texas Code 61.302(11).
