Chemical compound

Indophenol is an artificial blue metachromatic dye, obtained by the action of phenol on certain nitrogenous derivatives of quinone. Indophenol resembles the color indigo in appearance. Dichlorophenol-indophenol (DCPIP), a form of indophenol, is often used to determine the presence of vitamin C, or ascorbic acid.

The formation of indophenol is used to determine ammonia and paracetamol by spectrophotometry.

Indophenol blue (CAS 132-31-0) is a completely different molecule with systematic name N-(p-dimethylaminophenyl)-1,4-naphthoquinoneimine.
