Statement of the Misplaced Pages Community against the Rampant Curse of Jimbocracy, which has overtaken the Encyclopedia to a Point in which Jimbo may say anything and it becomes Law

Recently it became apparent that the words of Jimbo Wales overrule anything. What he says becomes an instant rule. While this may be his prerogative, as he is the owner of Misplaced Pages, it reflects poorly on his claim that Misplaced Pages is the 💕. Therefore, I suggest that if Jimbo feels that something should become a rule, he should see if the community of Wikipedians approves it first. Otherwise, he should rename Misplaced Pages's slogan to Jimbo's encyclopedia. It is an insult to those who have contributed so much to this project, for everything to be decided by one man, and yet for him to claim that Misplaced Pages is a free and open project for all. We stand against Jimbo-worship, which is ultimately bad for the project, not some userboxes of a polemical or political nature. Jimbo is becoming the Big Brother of Misplaced Pages, and so I suggest that instead of the current logo, if Jimbo wants Misplaced Pages to be a 1984-like society, to change it to a picture of Jimbo Wales. Because I am seeing the most disturbing hypocrisy. People are praising the open and free nature of Misplaced Pages, then turning around and adhering to Jimbo's every word.

  2. --Agreed. "Freedom is Slavery" is not my motto. Of course, like the next comment says, this is probably a useless gesture, as is my manifesto, but hey, this is a protest vote. The Ungovernable Force 02:24, 22 February 2006 (UTC)

GFDL means that you can download the whole encyclopedia (see here), install the software (it's easy, I'm running a copy on my laptop) and just open the thing up. What you do with the site is up to you. Jimbo can't touch you as long as you comply with the license.

So if you wish, you're free to take your contributions, and mine, and those of everybody who has ever contributed to Misplaced Pages. But this particular website has its own rules, and its own management.

There is nothing to stop you taking the entire content and (if you can convince them) every single editor, and giving them a new site that Jimbo doesn't run. Jimbo would be left high and dry. So why not give it a go? --Tony Sidaway 02:13, 22 February 2006 (UTC)
