Mixed martial arts record from Sherdog

Todd Duffee (born December 6, 1985) is an American mixed martial artist who competes in the heavyweight division. Duffee fought for the Ultimate Fighting Championship and as one of their most promising young heavyweights until his controversial release in September 2010.

Background

Duffee was born in Evansville, Indiana and grew up in Raleigh, Illinois. He was working on a degree from the University of Georgia before leaving to train MMA full time.

Mixed martial arts

Duffee got his start into MMA after enrolling in boxing, at the age of sixteen. After moving down to Atlanta, Georgia; Duffee was able to take classes at a boxing gym. After finding out about MMA, he immediately went out and rented old UFC fights. Three days later, Duffee was training at a local MMA gym.

Duffee won his first three fights against Mike Walbright, Mark Haniger and Josh Bennett. Duffee then agreed to fight UFC and PRIDE FC veteran, Assuerio Silva in the main event of Jungle Fights 11. Duffee dominated the fight and won by knockout in the second round.

He currently fights and trains out of Throwdown Training Center in Las Vegas.

Ultimate Fighting Championship

Duffee was set to make his UFC debut against Mostapha Al Turk at UFC 99 until the UFC pulled Duffee from the fight for Mirko Filipović. He was next announced by the UFC to face fellow UFC newcomer Mike Russow however Duffee was then pulled from that match to face Tim Hague.

Duffee fought at UFC 102 on the undercard against Hague, gaining the new UFC record for fastest KO by knocking out Hague in only seven seconds after throwing the first punch that knocked him down. After he knocked Hague out, he celebrated to the camera by saying "That was an appetizer, I want to eat now Dana, let me eat!"

Duffee was expected to face Paul Buentello at UFC 107 but pulled out due to a back injury.

Duffee fought Mike Russow at UFC 114 in which he lost via upset knockout in the third round. After dominating the first two rounds, Duffee looked to be on his way to a decision win, when Russow knocked Duffee out cold with a right hand. Joe Rogan stated that the nature of the knockout was "like something out of a movie". In the post-fight press conference, Dana White stated that Russow had broken his left ulna deflecting Duffee's punches at the end of Round 1.

Duffee was expected to face Jon Madsen on October 23, 2010 at UFC 121, but Duffee was forced off the card with a lingering knee injury and replaced by Gilbert Yvel.

Duffee is currently looking for a new gym after being accepted into University of Nevada-Las Vegas for its spring 2010 semester beginning in January. He is looking into Xtreme Couture or Wand Fight Team.

Release from the UFC

On September 7, 2010, Duffee was released from the UFC for unknown reasons. Dana White later said in an interview with Ariel Helwani that he had an attitude problem and that it seemed to him that "he doesn't want to be in the UFC, he doesn't like being in the UFC." He also said that he could work his way back into the organization via fighting in smaller leagues.

DREAM

After his release from the UFC, Duffee attempted to pick up the pieces and move on with his MMA career by scheduling to compete in the Titan Fighting Championships at the beginning of 2011. Instead, a major break occurred for Duffee when Dream, a much larger promotion based out of Japan, was unable to secure an opponent for MMA superstar Alistair Overeem in DREAM's first heavy weight title bout at FEG's prominent annual New Year's Eve event, Dynamite!!. Duffee seized the opportunity by having his manager throw his name in the mix of potentials for the bout. Duffee's bold optimism paid off when, less than two weeks before the event, he was officially named to take on Alistair Overeem in the title fight. Overeem defeated Duffee by way of knockout at 19 seconds of the first round.
